Forget a tax funding climate change. I'd be happy if the oil sector was just forced to honour their cleanup obligations, particularly orphan wells. Right now, these liabilities are piling up at a horrific rate and it looks like taxpayers will be left holding the bag. Even the Trudeau government didn't touch that.
I think Carney's approach to climate policy is less tax and more investment and rebates. More rebates for heat pumps and EVs. Less taxes on gas. And given how a lot of tech is coming down in price, this might actually work. Even if it's not as economically efficient.
