Whitewashing is of course in the eye of the beholder. The new letting the victims and losers of history write it is as false as letting the winners write it but just as destructive. If Canada is a post national state in the midst of an ongoing genocide why wouldn't we be happy to be annexed? Surely Indigenous Canadians should be happy to be free from the Canadian yoke no?
Acknowledging the truths of our past or remedying injustice is now the same as "letting the losers write history"?

Funny how the "if you don't like it here, leave" line is only ever used to respond to lefties or POCs who want to fix something unjust with the country, never the complaints from the kkkonvoy or the "canada is broken/where did MY country go" crowd...

The “truths” being “acknowledged” are often heavily distorted and used to advance a political narrative.

Who is saying if you don't like it here leave it?

The version of Canada that says there are multiple and ongoing genocides would make us the worst actor on the world stage. If just existing is a genocide what else do you call it?

Indigenous people were the victims of genocide, but it was mainly in the 19th century. Let's not forget the Government of Canada trying to erase their identity, language, and culture during the forced residential school program, which only ended in the early 90s. There is no ongoing genocide, it's acknowledging our past mistakes.

By modern standards it's pretty hard to deny there were genocidal actions in 19th century Canada. The question is how important that was to our founding. The push for integration and Christianization of McDonald doesn't mean Canada was one of the most pluralistic and best societies being formed in the world in the 1860s.

Forcing them to speak English and integrate into Canadian and modern life and the general largely church led atrocities that were widespread at residential schools (and other schools led by clergy even elite private schools) but the reason they lasted into the 90s is bands requested to keep them open.

The legitimate aim of getting Canadians to understand the unique struggle Indigenous Canadians have had might justify the false narrative that borders on a caricature around residential schools but claiming there were mass graves and making it a crime to deny something that has no evidence is 1984 level group think. Into the 2000s there were happy reunions celebrating the excellent education they got at residential schools.

Indigenous relations is certainly the biggest stain on Canada's history that needs no exaggeration only reflection on the errors made in building probably the most free AND accepting nation in the world.

I bet if you ask a lot of Canadians they would think you were and are better off as an Indigenous person in the US rather than Canada. Hence it's relevance to this whole debate.

I don't doubt that there were exceptions, but as a whole, the Indigenous people suffered immensely from being forced from their families, and taken hundreds of kilometres away, only to endure widespread dehumanisation, and physical/sexual abuse.

It was important for us as Canadians, to Apologise to the First Nations people, since as a society, we can accept our wrongs, and start the process of healing for the Indigenous community.

Don't disagree with any of this though some is exaggerated. The point is do we need to pretend Canada was sending the RCMP into villages ripping away all the kids and the nuns were shooting them and piling their bodies in mass graves. Moreover does telling a generation of people that Canada has one of the worse human rights records on earth when clearly we have one of the best have an impact on their desire to join an imperialist project? We are as racist as America, were as guilty as Germany in WW2 because we turned away some Jewish refugees etc.

the "kkkonvoy"?

The truckers were protesting the coercion tactics used by the Liberals to get everyone to take an experimental vaccine which was completely reasonable since they work alone and because they held that position the truckers must also like to lynch black people in their spare time

https://politicalpulse.net/politics/federal-opinion-polls-canada/

This site predicts a majority government for the Conservatives which just goes to show how far to the left SSPer's are to average Canadians

Excuse me. Then please explain to me who owns the crown corporation and who does the crown corporation respond too?

Please also explain to me who is in charge of overseeing personal care homes if it’s not the provincial governments.

Years before COVID these federally owned care homes had many many complaints filed against them and the provinces did nothing.

Which federal Crown Corporation are you talking about? Can you point me to their website?

People who are more educated, tend to be less likely to vote for right of centre parties. In the USA, university educated people are more likely to vote Democratic. In Canada, they are more likely to vote Liberal.

Liberals within 4 points of Conservatives now.

In the data, they're actually polling ahead of Tories with Carney as leader.

I assume you are a communist, but pension boards have vast holdings in the Canadian and international economy. Do non-communists want a cabinet minister telling Wal Mart how to run their business?

These CPC "Carbon tax Carney, he's just like Justin" radio commercials probably cemented my first ever Liberal vote in a federal general election. This party says sweet fuck all, their sloganeering isn't even creative anymore. This clown ran a much better leadership campaign than he is doing now leading into a general election (tossing my prediction of April 28 election day if we are taking bets). I just can't take PP seriously when the world has changed so much in the last couple months and he just can't seem to keep up.

Cemented? When did you ever vote otherwise anyway?

We are absolutely screwed when that happens. It requires a much more disciplined response than COVID (which we won't do). And it requires much higher investment in healthcare (which we haven't made).
