Some of the better shots I took from my recent trip to Greece, mostly from Santorini (most, if not all, are also in the thread I opened specifically about the trip. If it's not acceptable to post them here let me know and I'll delete the post).

I just used one of two PnS cameras I had, but any input would be most appreciated.

Going to start mixing in shots taken with the single-glass, plastic, and pinhole optics on the Lensbaby in addition to the double-glass ones. This is one such shot - the Tarrant County College river bluff campus in downtown Fort Worth, taken with the single-glass optic. The single-glass gives a "dreamier," more distorted and chromatic look to things.

Wow SomeFormOfHuman! Those pictures are amazing. I don't think making your shots 'favorites' on Flickr because almost all your shots are fucking gorgeous. You should sell some of your shots! I'd buy a couple (but I'm broke and I have to pay 800 bucks to this hoe (not really a hoe but I don't like her)). Do you use Photomatrix? And how do you get such vibrant colors without loosing quality?

Anyways, one of my crappy shots. I'm getting really tired of skyscraper porn. I want to start doing portraits but I don't have the right equipment. I'd love an SB600 for now and a 50mm 1.4G but it's too expensive so I might go with the 50mm 1.4D since it's way cheaper. I still want the Tokina 11-16 though. I might just not buy the 70-300vr because I don't think I'm gonna use it that much. I mean, who uses 300mm in the city? I imagine wildlife photographers and the occasional moon shot but I don't see much use in it after all. It's just that I can get it for 350 instead of 550 and I don't wanna miss this opportunity. Oh well, I'll see what happens in the next couple months.

Haha, thanks. I use Lightroom to edit my pictures - it is all that I need. :p I edit the images in CR2 (RAW) in that way the colours are easily adjusted according to what I want and retained as opposed to traditional JPEGs I used to shoot last time. To be frank, I don't usually edit alot too. I don't like to overedit my photos till it distorts from reality - Even for HDRs, I'd like to keep it what-you-see-is-what-you-get kind of shots.

If you ask me, the lens plays a vital role of the kind of shots you get. So do get the right tool for the right job. Also, the photographer and his eyes ;) I understand you're using a Nikon D40 is it?

Yes. 109%. Beats Chemistry class where I passed with a 60% 1st semester and for a C 2nd. Then again, I hated chemistry class. He cussed me out too. I f'ing hate him.

ANYWAYS! After seeing the amazing photos that SFOH took, I decided to check out Lightroom. It's SOO fucking amazing. I never thought it was this good. Holy shites! I took this shot a couple weeks ago but it came out like complete crap. Then I fixed it in lightroom and omggg!

http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3482/3999717395_abc343cdff_b.jpg

SFMH-I used to have a D40x but I switched to the D90. I'm still trying to get the hang of it but it's inspired me to do more photography. I love it so far. And yes, you're right about the equipment. It bothers me sometimes when people say it's not the camera but the photographer that takes good pictures. It's a true statement, but equipment can also mean the difference between a crappy shot and an amazing picture.

Absolutely love this shot. And I completely agree with that statement. I've been told that a few times, but after getting my new camera (just a Rebel xsi, but a big step up from a P&S) I know that the camera does make a huge difference.

Oh, btw, I'm off to check out Lightroom. :P Right now I've just been using Picnik on Flickr, just because it's better than PSE.

Great shots, Aleks and Ayreonaut!

@ Hydrogen, love your urbanist photos. :)

I agree. Lightroom is the tool of great editing power. It is simple to use, and very very effective. It was originally planned to be a plug-in for photoshop, but soon, its features became too large to be manipulated as a "plug-in" and its popularity rose to the top so quickly, therefore a separate software was made. :) It's now called Adobe Photoshop Lightroom.

But still, the shots you take are important. Some shots that my budding photographer friend took, it was just quite simple and albeit mediocre, even lightroom couldn't save it. I'd say the camera and photographer have to co-relate for the best photos.

A little expensive if you ask me. So I... **torrent** cough* cough*. ;)

The latest version is 2.5 though.

This is my grandma, and she's 95 years young. Shot in manual focus, my 400D's AF is screwy and will send servicing to Canon agents tomorrow.

Okay, so I did a lot of tweaking to this shot. First, I made an HDR from 5 exposures. Then I edited it on Photoshop Elements 6 and finally I made tweaks in Lightroom. I'm pretty happy with the result but I wish some colors weren't so over saturated. And the sky so over exposed.

Giallo, that B&W is amazing! I love it. I still can't figure out how to do good blacks and whites. I don't know if I should saturate the blues or the green or the reds. I just don't have the eye for B&W's.

The reason why I like photoshop is because of the perspective [aka lens] correction. It's such a helpful tool, especially when the lens has too much pinch or barrel.

Panorama taken at the intersection of Oleander & Adams in Fort Worth's Near Southside (Oleander is in center, a tiny street redesigned by Fort Worth South, Inc. into a pedestrian & bicycle-oriented corridor). Texana Townhomes are on the left, Oleander Place townhomes on the right (including a bit of the under-construction second phase).

This panorama was taken with the camera on an Apple iPhone 3GS, and is comprised of 18 photos. It was assembled into a panorama on the iPhone itself, using the AutoStitch application. No work (apart from resizing) was done on a conventional computer.

Thanks! Fine photo yourself, you always give eye pleasing architecture angles.

I've been eyeing the 50mm f1.8 by Nikon, I think it will be the next lens of mine. The bokeh looks fantastic with that one, but even with that I know I can take pretty nice bokeh work with the two lenses I call my own, I think some of it is on par with a 50 mm.

Nice! Did you photostitch them together? I used to LOVE doing that but then I began shooting RAW and got really really lazy. It took too long to photostitch and my computer can't handle big files (which is why I don't do panos anymore since I only shoot RAW)

Do what I do. I just grab the few images that I have taken for a pano and quickly convert to jpg and then use the free Windows Live Gallery pano tool (a free download ontop of gallery)

Works great
