My first few photo edits with Lightroom. I decided against trying it out with the best pictures first, so that I could see, as Aleks said, how good it was for editing less-than-stellar shots.

The original picture of the Tower Bridge was quite poor, so I wasn't really sure what to do with it. I kinda went all fairy tale on its ass.

Got time to use the 18-200vr lense today.Yup there
is distortion at 18mm but I like it.For me it was so
handy out and about ...it suited all the ranges I was
lookin for.Finding it strange using the wide angle and
was not used to getting real close to things. Also using
modes such as manual, program and apeture..so had
focusing problems while forgeting which mode I was
in.I give the lenses the thumbs up for beginners but
for more experienced people or those doing architectural
pics maybe the lenses wouldnt suit....Im happy anyhow ;)

today with 18-200.

I like the photo more for the absurd "OMG! A LAMP!" feeling I get from it. She is very happy to be in the presence of artificial illumination and I don't blame her, it is December after all!

Speaking of December:

Yeah that's the whole point of that photo anyway. ;) LOL, it's not about the lamp or how bright it is but the image, as a whole. The colours, the lighting, the way she looks at the lamp, her clothes, the backdrop colours... all the elements compliment each other as a whole like a complete cycle. I would say it's nothing more but a mere eye candy shot. haha.

Last one from me. Nothing much lately...

@Hydrogen, erm it's not a rail way line, its a pedestrian bridge. :)

Singapore is very much a "Garden City" as quoted by our Redevelopment Authorities. So everywhere you go to, trees pop up even in our backyard and street corners...

Some more HDR attempts... As you can see, trees.... almost everywhere! This is to also reduce and minimize heat gains in our tropical climate, where everywhere and everyday of the year is 30*C outside. Taken in the West residential area in Singapore, Choa Chu Kang, far from the city area.

I dont mean to diss you or anything but I never understood how people liked beer. Its so ughh! It makes you thirsty, its not refreshing. Other than getting drunk I don't see why drink it casually. Actually, I wont even drink beer till after a couple shots.

I do however loveee the silhouette! I just wish the beers weren't there or he was holding something else.

Dec 18, 2009, 5:23 AM
What kind of beer have you drank? The stuff you usually see people drinking is indeed "ughh", but there are some great beers out there.
I used to hate it as well until going to Europe and trying different kinds from all over Ireland, Germany, and Belgium.

Without getting too off-topic, that's not really true at all. There are tons of amazing, award-winning (http://www.examiner.com/x-241-Beer-Examiner~y2009m12d10-2009-international-award-winning-year-for-American-craft-beer) American beers.

nickkoto

Personally, I loved European beers when I lived there, but the stuff being imported to the US is garbage. They actually sell both versions of some beers on the military bases (like you might see a rack of proper brown-bottled Bitburger stubbis and a 6 pack of the green-bottled American version side by side on the shelf) and the difference between the two is night and day. The good stuff isn't being sold here and you might as well find a domestic that you like.

If it wasn't for the vegetation up front, I would swear that's a toy train set. Between the passenger cars being mated with flatbeds and something strange about the tracks (are they toothed for climbing hills?), it doesn't quite look real.

I know...there are many great american beers, but you have to admit that the 'big' ones ie: Coors, Millar, Bud et al are terrible...

I was just saying the US isn't famous for beer, the same as say your Ireland, England, Germany, and dare I say Canada...:D

I guess my real point is that if all Aleks has tried is Coors or whatever, that's not a real fair way to assess the relative merits of beer.

@Totota, I am surprised to hear that, especially when you have great local beers like Kilkenny!

To get this back on topic, this is film, and Canadian is terrible beer, I was drinking the Keiths:

18mm is a good lens, had the Sigma 18-200 one time, but now I separate out my lens range.

Some simple modelling work for my classmate's shopblog catalogue photos. This is my first time doing so. These aren't taken in a studio but a simple white wall background with natural lighting.

Don't wish to flood the thread, so more are found here on a separate set in flickr.

For me, I just click on the picture you want to post, then select "All Sizes", then scroll down to the bottom and you'll see grab links for you to use. For me I would just choose the 2nd option and grab the photo's URL:

http://farm5.static.flickr.com/4010/4205143003_cab3fefb55_b.jpg

just add the [IMG] tags around it and you're done. Though flickr tells me that I should link back the image according to their community guide, but I've seen many people not doing so, that includes me. LOL. No harm anyway...

^ I did about four HDRs over a few months and just got bored with it. More than willing to admid I'm at fault, but it always seemed like a lottery whether it would turn out usable or not....and even if it was decent I still wasn't sure if it looked any better than a regular exposure. I'm also soured on them by the fact that some people seem to feel the need to overprocess them to the point of baing laughable. Do people really think that looks good?

Anyway...
http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2615/4219865575_af2777e630_b.jpg (http://www.flickr.com/photos/badcomputer/4219865575/)

I couldn't agree more. Photography is all about the composition, the form and a representation of its time. While I love HDRs due to the fact that they look "nice". But that's just eye-candy. What I hate about HDRs is the fact they look "overprocessed" and fake and moreover is how some "photographers" handle them. I don't think that is the whole idea of photography, it should be a medium that is expressed accurately about the moment of time and place. I just don't quite understand the whole idea of overprocessed photos.

I only reserve HDRs for architecture. And even so, they'll be blended such a way is what you see in the human eye in a realistic fashion. That's why I gave up architecture photography for the sake of Macro. And that's why I've been shooting macro these months. They're beautifully natural and a mild processing is all I need. What you see in the shots are actually what they are in my camera.

More macro frenzy....

^It's a cactus. No, Edmonton isn't arid, but we have something called the Muttart Conservatory (http://www.muttartconservatory.ca/pages/Muttart/default.aspx) which are four glass pyramids, each holding a different biome in a climate controlled area. One arid, one tropical, one temperate, and one "seasonal"...great variety and fantastic for winter.

Great shots, I remember seeing a streetcar or lrt in Dublin and how modern and chic the condos around it were, looks the same with parts of Limerick! Usually the old very much overthrows the new in Euro cities, but doesn't look like it is the case in Ire, it's kinda like Toronto, strong old architecture bones meets fantastic modern gleaming glitz.

very pretty like eurocities....but none the less they
have their charms.

Dec 30, 2009, 1:18 AM
^I think they look pretty, from what I've seen. No they don't have the classicness of grande Euro cities like Paris or Rome or Moscow or Barcelona, but still, I like that Dublin, Limerick have some nice modern edges in comparison. Limerick looks almost like a New England/Acadian city with less commie blocks and concrete and more modern condos.
