I was in Salt Lake City for business a few weeks ago and had a little time for sight-seeing. A few impressions - while SLC isn't uber urban and dense it does have its own vibe and in many ways seems headed in the right direction. Loved the terrain around the Capital and up into the Avenues. I was less impressed by the size of the blocks (My hotel was around 500 south and I intended to walk and use the light rail but found myself just driving quite often). I had a great time and hope to return in the future once some of the omni-present construction is finished.
The SLC Library and environs
Some neon I shot near the Library
Temple Square
The Joseph Smith Memorial Building One of SLC's highlights and a personal favorite.
Downtown Area
The Capitol Theatre As you will see I was smitten with this building. Took a ton of photos.
Liberty Park Loved this park - Urban, multi-use, best park in SLC in IMO.
Capitol and surroundings I prefer my Capitols in a more urban setting, but this building is gorgeous.
Guvnah's Mansion and hood
East of Downtown and the Avenues
Park City and yada, yada. I went to Park City and drove over Guardsmans Pass back into Big and Little Cottonwood Canyons.
Excellent photos CPV! No doubt about it, you're photos are some of my favorites of certain buildings, like the Alta Club. Some great updates of the streets downtown, and also some that haven't been captured for the forum before.
I hope your visit was both enjoyable and productive. Thankyou for the very gracious gesture and sharing of your talent.
I have to say that the totally neutral point of view of shot selection is just awesome.
It is great to see Salt Lake City shot through a set of eyes that is choosing what is interesting. Sometimes familiar and sometimes totally original.
Yes Salt Lake City is seriously one of the most beautiful cities anywhere.
Now that the the general area has grown together from north to south to be around 2,200,000, seeing these images just makes me realize that there really has been a concept of preservation. I am totally impressed!
Killer thread. Just so much to comment on. Salt Lake City is a place I'd like to visit, although it isn't at the top of my list, but you're thread extremely increased my interest. This is the best Salt Lake City (photo)thread I've seen .
There is way more urbanity and density and glorious architecture than I would have ever thought. I saw old photographs of Salt Lake City and saw many old buildings but I assumed they were all demolished. I must say I never noticed any real urban commercial strips when reading about Salt Lake City, except the Sugar House or whatever...Sugar Cube? but that is not very big. Seems there is a lot more than I thought. I also like how you checked out a lot of the old areas than the new stuff that I typically see. Very well done!
And how do you get your pictures so good? They look so crisp. I mean the colors look fantastic. It's hard to explain, but you know when a photo is high quality, and it doesn't even have to have artistic qualities.
Best photo thread of SLC I've ever seen on here. Images are so vivid and crisp. Great angles as well, and looks like you really were able to explore the town.
THANK YOU for a stunning thread of my beautiful home town
Now for the big question: What camera and lenses did you use and did you photoshop any of the photographs? I feel like a ruh-tard for not being able to tell right away but I will say the quality is superb.
