Visiting downtown Phoenix in under 20 blocks a day, part 1...

Went downtown on Wednesday to take a few shots. Found a broken parking meter on 3rd St., so I abandoned the car, and started walking. I ended up walking the whole afternoon, from 3rd St. to 1st Ave., and from Washington to Taylor (I didn't plan it this way, it's just how it happened). I tried looking for some vantage points that I thought might be unique, especially to this forum.

Started off on 3rd street, between the west and north convention center buildings.

Headed south and around the corner to Washington.

In case anyone was wondering, the water fountains do work.

Around the corner again, this time north on 2nd st.

Turning onto Adams...

Looking up 1st St.

I decided to duck into the Regency garage, and see if there was anything worth looking at. Looking north up 1st St. again.

The CityScape hole is even more impressive from this vantage point.

On the south side of the garage.

What's really nice about the garage is that it backs-up next to the last stand of 'really' old-Phoenix buildings left in DT, including the Fry building.

This place is almost like a tiny portal, peering back into the 19th century.

On the east side...

Back out on the street, I walk up to Monroe...

Sadly, the small building next to the Monroe Hotel isn't looking so good.

I need a break...

Continue to part 2...

I love the fact that on a recent similar walk around DT we ended up with like 3 similar shots. Awesome.

This angle on the Summit is hot.

Very nice shots... this seems like a prime candidate for posting in the main city photos section. Why don't you post it there too?

The new angles are always a nice surprise... especially the ones of the back of the old buildings. Too bad there was a few red x's in there, i feel like i missed out on a couple gems! (the "peering into the 19th century" picture was a red x).

Thanks for the props peeps...

Plinko, I'll have to go back and look at your thread, that is a funny coincidence.

PHX31, the Regency garage views of the alley behind 100 block were quite an eye-opener. Little details like the bricked-over doorways and windows, the additions and improvements, and some of the neglect were interesting to look at.

Regarding the red x's, try refreshing your browser. I had problems earlier too, but the pics seem to reappear. I'm using imageshack for hosting, it may be a problem with their server.

Great shots. Definitely post them in the main forum, but be ready for snooty Europeans to tell you how ugly America is.
