LOS ANGELES, California | From Behind the Yellow Line

I visited my in-laws in Southern California for about a week in late December and was able to make it into LA for a day. I took the Metrolink in from Riverside and walked around from ~9:30am to 4:30pm. Here's what I saw in those 7 hours…

A little grit, a little glitter, and a whole lot of great sights from LA. Good show.

Wow! That was a truly outstanding thread, but coming from you I knew ahead of time it would be... I got all excited to check it out and you didn't disappoint.

It looks like you had a great tour guide there with King showing you around too.

I actually just ran into him on Broadway about half way through the day... I recognized him from seeing his pic on here, plus he had a camera with him, so I introduced myself and we took the subway to Hollywood and back. So yeah, it was good having someone who knew his way around. Next time I'm there I'll send you a PM and you can show me whatever he forgot about!

Yeah, I wanted to try a shot like that. I got a 10-20mm lens a couple months ago and the buildings in Portland aren't tall enough for me to see just how wide it can get.

Magical set. I love some of the experessions on some of the people's faces, they're quite interesting when you look closer. I like the contrasts between the zoomed in telephotos and zoomed out wides clashing. The colors, as usual, are fantastic. How do you do that? Do you put in any special settings to get such colorfulness and good shadows out of your photos? The lighting in LA probably helped, surely doesn't get that bright out here this time of year (but at the peak of summer, it's way more bright up here for way longer...like 10-11pm sometimes).

They don't call California the Golden State for nothing. You get paid in sunshine. Anything else requires a second or third job
