Northern Touch

I've been wanting to make this thread for a looong time, as i've never seen Whitehorse on here, and don't think i've seen Juneau either.
SO, I am providing you with some photo documentation of both!
All the Whitehorse pics are from throughout 2007, and the Juneau pics are from a short jaunt down to go skiing at Eaglecrest which I must say was a pretty bad-ass mountain.

Just for some background:
Yukon population:30,000, Whitehorse population:23,000 - Government town with recreation opportunities galore everywhere. Snow from October to May.

Juneau population: 30,000 - Capital City - Government town with recreation opportunities galore everywhere. I'm pretty sure it rains there 13 months a year.

Enjoy!

Enough of the cold, let's go to Juneau! 6 hour ferry ride, but totally worth it for the coastal temperatures!

Very nice. Juneau looks beautiful with the mountains so close to town in the background. Great photos!

Nice to see those two areas. I've never seen the coast further than the tip of Vancouver Island.

Thanks folks!
Juneau is a pretty unique place. The downtown is all on its own on a small outcrop of land between towering mountains and the ocean. Mendenhall is the other larger built up area, which, along with the airport are 20 miles up the coast. It was actually surprising how major of a thoroughfare it was.

More amazing though is the density of this place that is in Alaska ... I mean, c'mon ... not exactly short on land.

Yes!!! I'd been hoping for several years that someone would post some photos from Juneau and now it's happened! Thank you very much! I've always been anxious to see what this city looks like. I LOVE how it's sandwiched between the water and TALL mountains. It helps create a wonderful density and as a result what I would assume is a reasonably lively downtown area to walk around & explore. Definitely enjoyed this thread.

(it's also nice to see Whitehorse)
