But we already gather all the transitway service downtown on buses, with about that same frequency. They just have different route numbers. I don't see it really making much of a difference. But I doubt OC Transpo would do it anyway.

Entrance to one of the busier LRT stations on a freshly rebuilt street is dedicated to car storage. What an embarrassment.

It sure will make a difference. It isn't Albert/Slater that I am concerned with. Hurdman and St. Laurent will be bigger problems. At the present time, a good portion of buses skip those stations. Since R1 is a single bus route, every bus would have to routed through Hurdman and St. Laurent. With all the issues with OC not being able to retain drivers and overtime costs are ballooning, we could not possibly maintain service levels even to today's standards. R1 is not intended for ongoing service. It is simply a stop gap service that might run for a few hours on only part of the route. We have already been warned that R1 will not be able to maintain service in the event of a system wide failure and heaven forbid, for an extended period of time. This is why they have to make sure that the Confederation Line is running almost perfectly before it opens to the public.

My only question....

Does nobody in the RTG consortium get the concept of expectation management? Alstom's CEO flies over from France only to provide another missed deadline. How incompetent and dysfunctional is this consortium?

Also, what's with OC Transpo being so gullible on these deadlines. More than anyone they should know how far off RTG is, and stop planning to RTG pledged deadlines.

At this point, it's looking increasingly likely that service won't start until the new year. And is OC Transpo even willing to risk a winter launch?

No further deadlines should be taken seriously unless RTG's and Alstom's CEOs are willing to personally put their jobs on the line for them.

So launching just 10 trains in the morning takes 4+ hours now, and no trains are moving until it's complete. Then after am peak they reduce, and launch again for pm peak, reduce again, and reduce for the night. During all of these times there is a system-wide hold and only one train mobile.

In the same vein, they are only running trains on the regular loop. No other motion is allowed, specifically diversions around broken trains or shorter loops. So if any train is immobilized anywhere on the guideway it's all shut down. All the switches are locked and clamped in tangent except the terminus switch sets. To make matters worse, only one platform is available at end stations. Nobody seems to know why Thales has requested these restrictions, but it's going to be like that all week.
To narrow down test cases perhaps?

Thanks for the info. So trains could very well have been completed by that July 7th deadline. This is just potentially a new issue.

I assumed the physical units. Doors, power, breaking systems and such. The operating system is Thales responsibility, not Alstom's.

It's like saying the HP computer is fixed, but the Windows operating system is still causing us problems.

Can't say the same about those SNC renderings...

Good Day.

To be fair, the render was for the 2005-6 NS system, at a LeBreton station design that was in early concept of sharing the lower level under the bridge with both E-W BRT and N-S LRT lines, and bus transfers to Gatineau were still not known as to how they would be (well) handled.
Given that, IMO it was as well designed as the concept plans in 2011 for the present Pimisi E-W LRT C-Line station.

And, lastly, It was possibly still at the point where in the first (Bayview) or second (LeBreton) iteration of the NS Line that was to terminate at LeBreton, with -possible- extension into downtown (let alone to uOttawa).

Remember - the plans and contracting were EXTREMELY 'confidential' (top secret paranoia does not even begin to describe it) in that whole time-frame.

@J.OT13 - if you have any more, it would be so VERY fascinating to see. Big Thanks for those renders.

EnJoy!

So much for trying to be optimistic. Thanks for the update!

At this point I've given up hope that we'll see the confed line open within 2019, and won't be surprised if we don't see it open before the Trillium line shuts down.

I'm pretty sure that's what I predicted many posts ago

Trying to sum up positivity again, we are seeing only doubles. RTG may actually file for substantial completion again. The trains aren't really ready and the 12 day test will fail. However it might make sense for all involved to move to that stage, as it means we could do handover as soon as it hits the right level of reliability, whereas now there's at least weeks between where they hit the mark and the process allows handover

Track work was being done near Hurdman. About a dozen workers on the track with a bunch of propane tanks.
