Treats didn't get much traffic - the food/coffee was mediocre, and getting to the Cornwall food court, or the Broad St Tim's is almost as quick, with better food. (can be over to food court & back to the office in under 10mins... I've gone to GreenSpot & Starbucks in under 5mins)

This is going to be a wonderful addition to the RSM. Many of the old exhibits are tired - some over 40 years old. This will be a big shot and the arm. It should be quite impressive when you walk in the front door.

I'm really excited. I went last year with my daughter and I am fairly certain 95% of what was at the museum was there when I was a kid.

I really hope this can lead to increased interest in the museum and possibly some kind of expansion to show more exhibits.

A look at the progress on Conexus. Do they expect to top out this year?

There is an exhibit being built a for a new cast replica of Scotty the t-rex from Eastend at the RSM. From what I heard they are aiming for it to be ready by May long weekend.

Their Instagram account keeps the project pretty up to date.

Random updates from Home and Garden show 2019

Westerra - McDonalds and Starbucks are coming....the grocery store is still coming but not right away...

Costco - Building on to store this year to add on liquor store - going to knock a hole in the wall. The staff at the booth also claim the store is doing so well that staff keep hearing a second one is in the planning for the north end.

A couple of the home builders say Coopertown will start up this year.

I've heard that Costco has no interest in liquor in Sask and I would doubt a second location in Regina.

It was always the plan to start servicing in 2019.

Costco has their liquor permit so yes it's a go.

Costco has been actively scouting for a second location in the NW. I would expect it to open around 2025.

Has anyone heard any details of the Regina catholic school board buying a new building downtown (2151 Scarth st) without an RFP for $5.2 million? I have a friend who works for one of the parties involved who says they haven't done an open RFP but are moving ahead with a sole-source building purchase anyway. Is that legal for a publicly-funded org like that? I thought that if you're using public money you have to do an open process for requirements and proposals. Where I work we have to do RFPs for anything over a few thousand!

Thought I'd ask here since everyone seems to be in the know, and it didn't seem above board.

In must public bodies, the RFP or tender rules can be overridden by the board if they are satisfied it is an arms-length transaction and in the best interest of the organization, etc. For example they may have determined that a new building would cost $10 million but can buy this one for half that.

There was an RFP. They just didn't adhere to the specs of it at all.

Yeah, RFP said they need 50,000 square feet and the building that is mentioned by CJME has something like 30,000. Not to mention it is downtown...which is not something that is probably needed for a place like a school board when there are options available on cheaper land (with a larger footprint). Never mind if they need to do a lot of shipping and receiving, which is not optimal in a downtown location.

The public school board seems to have a decent location in terms of size and place. Whenever a organization like this (which should be striving to save public money, or put it to better use on things like, I don't know, education of children) wants to have an office in a higher-profile location, I always wonder if it's a vanity project for the board or administration rather than based on a solid business case. What argument is there for spending more money on downtown land for an organization like this that is basically self-contained?

Living in Toronto, I’ve noticed a lot of older buildings renovating their exterior and adding better ground level retail/entrance upgrades.

Really wish SGI would finally redo their outer glass as well as the TD Bank building, the Canada Post building and definitely the Chateau tower. What other Regina buildings do you think are in need of serious exterior revamps?
