Main Street makes me think of Seattle and Fraser street makes me think of Portland.

You're talking about the buildings right? Portland can't be that bad.

just the mix that Portland has while maintaining a smaller vibe. Fraser is in transition and the styles are kind of a mix on the smaller side. Main street reminds me of Capital hill.

Thanks for the update!

I just realized -
Does the slope of Main drop so much that the project at 4th & Main doesn't have to deal with the view cone that Elenore on Fifth had to angle back for?

Trying to not let the "Value Engineering" kill the creativity of the design. Here is the updated #design for the #vancouver Industrial building. And, yes, that's HardiePlank.....

Remind me never to hire those guys. They really missed the budgeting mark on their project. All their stuff is value engineered.

March 12th, 2019 – Public Hearing

March 12th 2019 Public Hearing – Vancouver City Council Looks to Clean House in Record Time

March 12th, 2019 – Public Hearing
Anyone who has been watching the meetings of our new city council knows they are experiencing some growing pains. While the arguments that framed the old council have faded, a breadth of inexperience has led to meetings now taking hours or days longer than they used to. While this undoubtedly frustrates members of the public who have come out to speak, we can’t image it’s easy for those who have chosen to sacrifice their privacy and hold elected office either.

That said, this should be a quick hearing, Councilor Swanson may not even have time to knit a dishcloth, let alone a scarf or sweater. The only rezoning item scheduled for the night is that of the so called haunted house at Cambie and King Edward Station. Surprisingly, it’s actually one of the text amendments that may generate some turnout.

While most of these are simple house cleaning measures, two of them are a bit different. The first allows for a relatively minor increase of work space in the podium of Grant Thorton Place, and isn’t worth further mention. The other has drawn a small amount of attention as it slightly increases the height and density of a building under construction in South East False Creek.

Backlash Expectations:

The First Item
4118 – 4138 Cambie Street – Very Low
Not one piece of feedback was received prior to the public hearing

The Fifth Item
1768 Cook Street – Low
Some are concerned about the loss of their penthouse views and impacts on private amenity space

1520, 1524, 1530 & 1558 West 6th Avenue - UDP

A Brush With Rejection – Duality Survives Close Call with the UDP

1520, 1524, 1530 & 1558 West 6th Avenue
While this was not the first time I have attended an Urban Design Panel meeting, it was the first time I have been there without Darren. As he had another obligation to attend to, I hurried to City Hall after work to see the review of this relatively simple looking building. Unfortunately, even though the meeting was running nearly 90 minutes late due to a lengthy review of the second development application for the Oakridge Centre, I still missed most of this proposal’s introduction.

That said, I did make it in time to learn some new terminology that is appropriate to this design. Like its dual L-shaped design, this building will have an in internal courtyard which allows for a podium that offers dual aspect townhomes, which have operable windows on at least two sides. These garnered a lot of support, as several people believed these townhomes simply belonged on 6th Avenue, and felt the building itself would be a good contribution too.

Wesgroup has some sort of advert/boarding on the former key card Chevron on 1st Ave and Clark, didn't get a good look at it. Might have been plans for the site?

Anyone know what's going on with the former gas station at the corner of Burrard and 4th?

Station is demoed and Ledcor/Dilwari hoarding is up, but to my knowledge there is no DP/Rezoning open on the site.

It's alright, the angled roofline of the original proposal was nicer.

MEC 130 W. Broadway possible redevelopment render

I can't remember seeing anything about this mentioned on here last year, needs a bit of colour but looks neat.

Quote:
MEC West Broadway store could be redeveloped into stunning twin towers

Artistic rendering of the MEC store redevelopment at 130 West Broadway, Vancouver. (Neil M Denari Architects / IBI Group Architects) One of the largest properties on Vancouver’s Central Broadway Corridor could be redeveloped into a mixed-use redevelopment with twin towers.
MEC’s current flagship store location at 130 West Broadway, just three blocks west of Broadway-City Hall Station, is set to be redeveloped as the cooperative retailer is set to move to a new location in the Olympic Village area.

Redevelopment plans for the sprawling 52,500-sq-ft West Broadway property, which is currently occupied by a 1953-built building that houses the store, are ambitious given the location.

Local developer Reliance Properties wants to build 23-storey twin residential towers perched over a side-wide podium with restaurant and retail space, including a corner grocery store. Approximately 275,000 sq. ft. of floor area is envisioned for this design.
Los Angeles-based Neil M. Denari Architects (NMDA), with IBI Group Architects as the architect of record, is behind the sleek design of this project, which features double-storey punctured windows and a plaza space on the rooftop of the podium. NMDA has worked with Reliance Properties before, namely the developer’s proposed 300-ft-tall, quartz-shaped white tower at 902 Davie Street.
No formal application to the City of Vancouver has been submitted at this time.

There is growing interest in redevelopment opportunities along Central Broadway due to the planned Millennium Line Broadway Extension, which will extend the SkyTrain system to Arbutus Street and add two more platforms to Broadway-City Hall Station.
MEC’s new flagship store within a three-storey, 60,000-sq-ft building on the northeast corner of the intersection of West 2nd Avenue and Quebec Street is anticipated to open in mid-2019. Construction on the new location began in 2017.

Those would have some incredible views. The NIMBYs will be out for it though.

Yup, the place is halfway to Main. Not sure how they could make that mistake.

Nice to see them keeping the view from the parking lot.
