Hospital components are located mainly in the central parcel, while office and research buildings tied to the hospital will also be located to the south and west, but not the north parcel.

The pedestrian flow at-grade and corridors are good to see through the main central healthcare campus. Hopefully the new S-W plaza will be well programed with adjacent uses. The food/retail podiums facing the new streets surrounding the main health campus is reassuring at least.

I was going by on Skytrain today and snapped this pic.

Not going to work. The current position lets the cross occupy the far corner of the overlook so as to not impede pedestrians; the sidewalk above the SkyTrain is barely wide enough for two people side by side, much less a big concrete base.

Chill yourself. it's a preliminary render. I think the hospital relocation will create a more positive synergy for the area, more so than the viaduct removal. There will also likely be hotels to follow to cater to the hospital.

This could also be the International Village mall's saving grace because of it's proximity.

The thing isn't that big how can you see it from downtown?

Oh god, looks like a garbage dump.

Hopefully this development leads to that corner being far better maintained and cleaned.

It's not just that corner: it's the entire stretch from the East van Cross all the way along the railway cut to Broadway/Commercial station. That whole area needs to be cleaned up, including the ones who vandalize or dump stuff.

Eventually, It would be nice to see a Clark Drive station house for VCC -Clark station - something like this:

You might be able to do it with ramps (no elevators) if the ticketing hall starts off lower than Clark Drive.

Nice idea, but how many people are using the train to/from that area? It's a bit of a wasteland, though on a decent bus route at least.

It doesn't have to be planted on the sidewalk. As I said, using the right-of-way of the SkyTrain is feasible.

So, either building a support post from the ground "below" the walkway/bridge, or anchoring the post supporting the cross actually on the side of the walkway/bridge could be 2 feasible solutions. I'm sure there's more. But in no way is it "not going to work".

It's the western edge of Grandview-Woodlands area - so there will be increased density in future.
Agreed the majority of traffic will still be from VCC though.

No, because the entire point of the ROW means that nothing is allowed to block it so as to avoid scrapes and near-misses.

Directly south of the SkyTrain is still blocked by the building, directly north conflicts with the CP ROW, and right above the tracks is obviously a no-go. If you mean converting the chain mesh "tunnel" to a concrete support, it's still going to be invisible west of Glen and north of 1st - not to mention overly magnanimous of TransLink, spending all that money to accomodate a mere art piece.

I went down to the old Arbutus Shopping Centre and took these pics today. The first phase is huge and is now approaching grade, or getting close.

Making Room Housing Program – Citywide RS zoning changes – duplex

Dunbar Eagerly Awaits More Density – Open House Events Reveal Most of Vancouver is Ready to Make Room
Making Room Housing Program – Citywide RS zoning changes – duplex

We are taking a slightly different format with this article, as it will present the perspective of Darren and I spread over two separate events.

Hannah – Dunbar Information Session

After picking Darren up from an open house for the first pair of Oakridge Centre towers, we made our way to the Dunbar Community Centre to attend the third Make Room information session. While the two previous events were held in East Vancouver at the Hastings and Killarney Community Centres, this was the first one hosted in the West Side. Based on our experience at the info session for a small increase in density to Kitsilano RT zones, we were expecting a tumultuous experience.

Darren – Oakridge Information Session

In disbelief over what we had seen at the Dunbar event, I choose to attend the Make Room event in Oakridge the next day. Unfortunately, once again, I didn’t arrive at this event until about 6:30pm as I wanted to stop by the last modular housing event first. Even worse for me was that Hannah was unable to join me as she was at a goodbye party for a colleague that had been recently promoted, and who would be transferring offices as a result.

As I walked up to the Peretz Centre, I noticed one lone person standing outside, apparently opposed to the speed of the discussion on the plan. After accepting a flyer, I walked into the event and was greeted by a group of city staff that seemed eager to engage with me, as I was literally the only member of the public there. When I asked if I was the only one to have come out over the whole night, they said there had been a rush of people at the dinner hour but that it soon died down.

Hmmm, a "city wide plan", under "neighbourhood control". WTF does that even mean.

Sounds like NIMBYs make the decisions.
