Bingo. I had a layover in NY last year and used the check-in at JFK. I was surprised at how little there is for retail compared to the post security section. It makes sense, most people are now pick up and drop off, and when the passengers are dropped off they go right to the check in. Retail in the post security area is kinda pointless these days.

Have fun depalletizing all that stuff and cramming it into a 7M8. Bonkers.
Once the 763s go I just cannot see any slack in the 777, 333 or Dreamliner fleet for transcon other than YVR positioning.
Perhaps time for dedicated freight again.

The schedule doesn't match what you can book yet. 9 daily 7M8 is a big downgauge; if no heavies, I expect a few 321s to remain. Current bookings are 13x daily. I'd expect that to remain unless they add a 788/789 to the rotation. The schedule isn't close to final.

AC 130/132/154/156 are missing from the schedule.

PHX appears to be upgauged to 2x daily on AC next winter - one on CR9 and one mainline.

According to this AC is considering YYC-IAD and YYC-BOS as potential new routes for their new A220.

AC has a tendency to add flights and then remove them. They update the schedules first then update the booking system. But agree definitely not final yet. The Dreamliners won’t be wasted on domestic routes unless repositioning for intl ops which are stretched to the max.

I'm only still seeing 1x daily 319/320 for next winter. Unless I haven't looked far enough ahead yet?

Other AC changes I noticed though: (Not sure if there new, haven't really looked at the AC schedule in a bit.)

LHR - Operated by 77W on selected days in Feb.
LAX - 1x daily 319 and 1x daily 7M8 from May 1. (Previously 2x 319)
EWR - 1x daily 320 replacing 319.
YHZ - Now a red-eye instead of morning departure.

I just looked up the flight and I think it is departing Everett at 5:15, and arriving later. I just watched the dreamliner depart on flightradar. Super cool.

10 years ago I was at Everett looking at the Dreamliner cabin mockup. I knew immediately there was no hope for an 8 abreast configuration, every airline would go 9 across with narrow seats.

In response I started to advocate with every airline executive I talked to regarding adding a domestic business class seat as a good midpoint between squishy economy and lie flat Business Class pods. This largely how/why Premium Economy came about (there were thousands of frequent flyers saying the same thing regarding need for a middle cabin and were willing to pay an extra $300-$600 for the privilege of more space).

I flew long distance on a dreamliner last year in economy, and personally had no issue with nine across. I think cost and thus accessibility is a big driver for me, and the slight difference in comfort between economy and eight across is not material when the flight is a means to getting to where I want to go, and not the actual apex of my travels.

I'm fine with nine, as long as the leg room is still livable. For context, Rouge is not livable.

I think the premium economy is a good addition. I am a fan of that product on AC and Lufthansa. Will likely also appreciate it on WS.

That said, I just have not ended up on the dreamliner that frequently in economy. The few flights have been Vancouver to/from Toronto or Newark. It has been OK but not great.

When I looked up premium economy last year it was more than double the cost of economy, so sadly it didn't all work out the way you had suggested to the executives. I'm glad the option exists, though.

There could be 2 reasons why P Econ is double the price of Econ;
(1) PE is almost sold out. One quite a few routes PE is selling out really good and in some cases out sells the economy cabin.
(2) There is a deep discount/sale for economy. My request for PE 300-500 more was based on regular advance sale economy cabin, but excluded the discount fare classes (lowest 3 classes).

That PE is selling so well is the reason why AA, UA, and DL are all getting into the game.

Apologies. But yeah the economy cabin aesthetic is really bad.

I'm interested to fly WS PE or J class during the proving trials. However I'm deeply involved in the upcoming provincial election, so might not have the time or money for a mileage run style trip.

United / Delta Summer Update

UA has just updated their summer 2019 schedules from YYC and there is one notable change compared to summer 2018.

As always UA is subject to change but this is what is showing up in this week's change.

SFO being maintained as twice daily but both flights will be mainline. Last summer it was one daily mainline one daily Express.

UA summer 2019 schedule:

DEN 1 daily mainline 3 daily Express (no change)
ORD 2 daily mainline 1 daily Express (no change)
IAH 2 daily mainline (no change)
SFO 2 daily mainline (increase in capacity as noted above)

So next summer UA will have 11 daily flights from YYC.
7 will be mainline with a mix of 739s, 738s, 320s and 319s.
4 will be Express 2 E75s and 2 CRJs.
I also think this is the first time UA will have more capacity on YYC-SFO than YYC-IAH.

-------

DL has added mainline to SLC on one of the two daily flights. Last summer both were DL Connection

DL summer 2019 schedule (8 daily flights):

MSP 3 daily mainline (319s)
SEA 3 daily DL Connection (E75s)
SLC 1 daily mainline 319 1 daily Connection E75

Nice to see the U.S. carriers all upgauging in YYC. AA is putting a mainline on DFW (previously reported) and seasonal ORD returns. I really hate that CRJ200 to DEN though.
