About half of AC Window Park is closed off with construction fencing, all along APTN. Anyone know if they're doing work to that side of the building now? The entrance could definitely use an update.

They just replaced the canopy last year lol!

Heard from peeps the renos on the 333 Portage building went crazy over budget.

Guessing that side won't get updated any time soon.

Or is he talking about a project that already released the renderings, e.g. Dreamscape?

They really didn't do that much to the building itself, must have been on a lot of the internal workings and studio equipment.

Science and Sport Minister Kirsty Duncan stopped by Jane’s restaurant this morning to formally announce the new project — one of several made possible through more than $10 million in funding for new research infrastructure at 11 colleges and polytechnics across Canada.

Through the CFI’s investment of more than $1 million in RRC, students and staff working at the new research lab will be even better positioned to collaborate with the food and agriculture industry on projects that will enhance food safety research, and address changing consumer needs and challenges such as food waste.

“Red River College is a leader in culinary research and innovation,” says RRC President Paul Vogt. “To date we’ve worked on more than 40 different projects with local food and agricultural producers in Manitoba to help them innovate and bring new products to market.

“This support from the Canada Foundation for Innovation means that we can expand our research capabilities to meet this growing demand, and create a dedicated state-of-the-art facility for researchers, instructors and students to work collaboratively — shoulder-to-shoulder with industry — to make the impossible possible when it comes to new food product creation and culinary innovation.”

Once complete, the new research centre will feature:

A fully equipped commercial kitchen and second modular-style kitchen for project-specific equipment
An analytical and culturing lab
A client collaboration and focus group space
A specialized food photography room
The new space and equipment will primarily be used for research with industry partners, but will also be available to instructors and students seeking to enhance their education and professional development.

The CFIs grant, delivered through its College-Industry Innovation Fund, is part of a $2.74-million renovation and equipment acquisition plan for the space at PGI.

“Our government is committed to harnessing the power of science to help people build a thriving middle class for themselves and for all Canadians,” says Duncan. “This investment … is a great example of how we are putting science to work by investing in modern labs and equipment so that students and researchers can turn unique, made-in-Canada ideas into reality.”

The HUB looks like it has the potential to end up looking like trash but man it is a great development for the area: a focus on biking, close to transit routes, close to restaurants and shopping, plus it's aimed directly at students... I'll take 5 more on campus please

Stadium Station is actually quite a hike from there. If you're coming from downtown on an RT route you'd be much better off getting off at Markham, and you'll likely be biking or walking into campus from the apartments.

Two current RT routes continue south past Bison, but the issue would be direction – neither direction would actually go onto campus. You could walk and catch one of the busses that takes Chancellor Matheson, on Matheson – but you're already half the way to main campus, so unless a bus happens to be pulling up, people might not want to wait around for one at that point.

There's also the chance that once the RT line is fully open, more busses might take it and may end up with less on CM.

You can probably catch a bus on Pembina that would enter the transitway at either Markham or Southpark.

The university decided Southpark was the main access point for BRT into the U of M, for whatever reason.

Yeah, the overall campus masterplan calls for med-high density residential all around the main entrance there. If they were to fast-track that area, maybe some sort of circulator route (whether an actual Transit route or just a U of M shuttle) would be warranted.

A spur would be a possibility but at that point probably be best to look at extending it all the way into St Norbert... As it is now there is a bus stop across Pembina from this complex that 2 non RT routes stop at (51 & 78) and they make only a stop or two in smartpark before they get to the centre of the University

On the transit topic, page 16 of these storyboards show the proposed transit routes. 162 goes past Pembina at Bison, and utilizes the transitway from Markham to downtown.
