Jesus! It’ll make the Cambie cut-n-cover look like a minor inconvenience.

I was referring to Langley blindly accepting LRT, so they’re basically saying “we’re ok if we get shafted”. Why is the NDP too coward to even say about this?

This is very likely what would happen, based on images I've seen of LRT & streetcar construction in Kitchener-Waterloo and in Toronto. I'd love to make more noise over this... but it would help to have a definite source, like some sort of leaked construction plan detailing the closures.

So they decided to throw SkyTrain out of the window. I’m losing my $&3t over this.
Remember that the entire 98 B-Line infrastructure was demolished for the Canada Line.
My thinking is that if the B-Line down Fraser Hwy gets clogged up by all the diagonal intersections,
then there'll be a rethink on the at-grade LRT.

This is less than what the 98 B-Line had:
Quote:
* real time information is something TransLink is working on to have in place for the launch of the service or very soon after;
* the current objective is to work with municipalities through their municipal street furniture programs to have shelters at 100% of the stops along the B-Line network;
* custom branded shelters and off-board fare payment are longer term visions and are not currently part of the scope of this project;

Maybe Langley will have a rethink, but Surrey will not. They will do anything to keep SkyTrain out of the radar.

This is where the entire City needs to come out and protest this. This is potentially the last resort as the City are going to begin construction in Spring 2019.

Also found out...104th Ave would be entirely CLOSED during construction. KGB would be down to 1 lane each direction during construction.
Would any streets be closed or reduced to 1 lane for a Skytrain construction?

The extent of closures - if it were SkyTrain- would depend on the allignment - centre of road or side of road.
Centre of road would have more impact, but one lane each way could probably be maintained, but centre of road makes for complex super tall statons like Brentwood.
Side of road is better, with smaller stations like Holdom.

There’s a large space on Fraser Hwy @ 160th where you can put a station there. It’s adjacent to the north of Fraser Hwy.

See, the Liberals got voted out because they completely shunned the Metro Van municipalities and did their own thing; in some cases that was good (Massey Bridge, Evergreen becoming SkyTrain instead), in some cases that was bad (no more transit funding without a vote, a lot of other stupid crap instead).

The NDP has decided to take the exact opposite approach and approve everything the mayors ask for, like they're in an Alpine Credits commercial. So we're once again getting the good (Broadway extension) along with the bad (Surrey LRT).

So Langley is fucked then. It’ll never have a chance to get SkyTrain.

It's not over until the fat lady sings. The Langley phase is 10+ years into the future; a lot of things (Hepner/Horgan getting voted out, Langley seeing the sh*tshow in Surrey and changing their minds) can happen between then and now.

^^This. I think once people see the result of LRT construction/implementation, they'll opt for Skytrain.

Problem there is that once that happens, it'll be nigh impossible to build the LRT lines (SW Marine/Arbutus/False Creek, Steveston, Surrey interurban) that could work well. (sigh) Such is life.

I have a tendency to “predict” the negative outcome of something while ignoring the factors of said outcome. I think I’ve read too much r/vancouver and DailyHive.

For those of you not on reddit Vancouver there's a healthy thread about the LRT. There have been many in the past as well.

For some reason, the LRT vs SkyTrain redditors also like to use posts from this particular thread to back up their argument...

That thread is pretty unusual. Past threads like this one are usually more toxic.

So what's the deal with that tunnel anyway? From the video it looks like cars drive down the paved ramp and then get stuck when the pavement ends and there's nothing but rails.

If that's the case, then why is the ramp paved? They could make it a lot harder for people to screw up by removing the pavement on the approach and the ramp so that people simply couldn't drive down it.

Or perhaps, put an area denial device like tire spikes at the portal that can retract when a train comes by?
