They really think the the single entrance the is already there is adequate for a major hub???

Seriously, this station deserves arguably 3 or more access points. 2 should not even be questioned.

One on each corner of the intersection, if not a pedestrian scramble while we're still using the 99.

I know BRT was an option here early on and it wasnt very popular but i just got back from Boston this past weekend and their Silver Line system runs from the airport to the city's financial district. In fact its free inbound! In fact its a trolley/diesel combo. It has its own right of way up until the tunnel to go to Logan Airport
Could BRT be utilized underground from Commerical to Arbutus and then transition to above ground after Arbutus?

Not sure if this has been discussed before.

What is a fair revenue to assign per boarded passenger? I have to imagine it's not much higher than $1.12.

The 99 will be incredibly efficient when the line to Arbutus is built. However some of the other UBC routes like 84, 25, 41 might get less efficient.

Yes, especially since Cambie and Broadway is a very busy car intersection compared to Granville and Georgia. There's already a lot of car vs pedestrian incidents there, it needs to be underground. But the Canada Line station is really shallow there.

IIRC at the west end of the Broadway-City Hall station mezzanine over the tracks the wall is designed as a knock-out panel for a future connection to a potential underground Broadway extension.

Also, the new-ish CoV Engineering services building on the north-west corner was built with provisions for an integrated future underground entrance.

So in the end we will have an integrated station for both lines with two entrances, one on the north west and another on the south east corners of Broadway and Cambie.

Yes. The other two corners will get redeveloped soon enough. Perhaps they can leave provisions for other entrances.

Do you mean south West corner of Broadway/Cambie ....because the existing Canada Line entrance already occupies the south east corner

No. It wouldn't. You could add a connection later (still incredibly stupid).

But we would be stuck with LRT to Langley for our lifetimes.

Here's a schematic of Broadway Station for reference.
I've marked in red where the "knock-out" panel is located on the mezzanine.
I've also emphasized the station box outline.

https://www.translink.ca/-/media/Documen...d-Design-Consultation-Summary-Report.pdf

So there is space within the street RoW of Cambie for a tunnel to the north from Broadway-City Hall Station.
We know there is a rough-in space at Crossroads behind Whole Foods for a station entrance.
An entrance from there could lead to a mezzanine to serve both Broadway Line and Canada Line.

Depending on whether the Broadway Line station platform is oriented to the east, west or centred on Cambie St.,
in addition to the entrance at Crossroads, I could see another entrance from the east end of the platform
(since it's a deep under Canada Line, via a mezzanine) linking (in future) to the City-owned redevelopment site.
(i.e. the entrance shouldn't necessarily be "on all 4 corners" - there could / should be a Broadway entrance farther to the east).

Assuming it'll be a centre platform like Canada Line, I would like to see the escalators and stairs at the ends of the platforms
(like Waterfront Station, both Expo Line and Canada Line), to allow for maximum standing room on the platform.

If the Broadway Line platform is positioned to the west, just flip the Broadway Line platform as I have drawn it, to better serve the hospital district
(but that'll be served by the Oak Station, and I think east of Cambie needs a boost)

If there are outside platforms, the mezzanine would have to be wider with escalators at its edges.
Example if the platform is farther west and entrances midway along outside platforms.

Great background, thanks.

Almost difficult to believe this project is a reality. Feels like Trump Tower 2.0

Speaking of which, how would a tunnel between the stations work? The Canada Line mezzanine would be at ground level on Broadway and above ground on 8th; seems like TransLink needs to build the Millennium mezzanine a couple floors lower, then stagger the connection upwards with stairs and/or ramps until it meets the Canada's.

Yeah, that's what I would expect.
It's no different than other stations having multiple switchbacks of escalators to descend deeper. In this case, there would be passages.

I would expect a mezzanine between the Crossroads entrance and the knock-out panel tunnel to provide a unified entrance down to the Broadway Line platform.
It would also mean passengers entering at Crossroads destined for Canada Line do not have to descend all the way down to the Broadway Line platform and then back up.

The Dunsmuir entrance to Granville Station (under The Hudson) has 3 sets of escalators and passages to get from street level to the lower platform:

Actually that last bit of information is really interesting. What is it with Burnaby anyway?

This comment misses the point.

First, a UBC line would end half the car and bus traffic along Broadway.

Second, everyone always thinks of a RR line as dragging people from the less populated areas to the more densely populated areas (like downtown).

The M line is unique because it would create a huge artery, running east to west, passing two great universities, numerous colleges, 3 regional shopping centres, the provinces major medical centre and three, count them, three areas for massive start up facilities (Mount Pleasant, Flats and Lake City).

once completed, you could live and work and play along the M line and ever have to leave. Anytime you wanted to get somewhere, traffic free trains run every two minutes.

Rain does not matter, snow does not matter, traffic does not matter.

It is not just about moving some students to their classes a little faster.

It's not justifiable to have a skytrain line serving low density neighbourhoods go all the way to the University at all times of the year. Rapid buses are more flexible: higher frequency during peak school sessions and lower during the holidays.

If West Broadway and 10th Avenue get densified from Arbutus to UBC, then by all means continue the line all the way there.
It s no longer the summer of 1970. Classes go three semesters everywhere.

Very simple. Derek Corrigan - though ironically pro-development - is opposed to almost every infrastructure project anywhere in Vancouver unless the NDP's given their explicit approval. He's opposed the Canada Line, the Broadway extension, the Trans Mountain pipeline, the 2014 referendum and the SFU gondola.
