That's Victoria Park (now part of the Beltline). It used to have prewar homes but it became an area of flop houses in the 80's and 90's due to speculation that the Stampede would eventually develop it. Who owns all that Stampede ground land? Why haven't there been any plans to build something like the East Village there?
And if there has been a proposal, was it decent?
As a Vancouverite, it's hard for me to imagine a tract of land of that size, that close to downtown on a transit line being empty, but it's probably empty for a reason.
Come to think of it, we still have a few of our own, but they all have enormous proposals (hospitals or masterplanned neighbourhoods) slated for them.
