Yesterday was finally spring like, sunny and little wind and a high of 4c, today is sunny and already temps in the city are ranging from 3c to 5c. Forecast was for a high of only 3c. All the snow in the city should be gone in a few days, as all highs are well above freezing and most days are very sunny for the coming week.

Looking at the 14 day trend I'm willing to bet we've seen our last day of frost in Vancouver.

You've touched a nerve - the farmers constant companion - how will it play out this year? Nobody knows until it is all said and done.

Here is a link to Agriculture Alberta's map for moisture throughout this season so far. This was updated under a month ago.

http://www1.agric.gov.ab.ca/$Department/deptdocs.nsf/all/ppe9917/$FILE/Feb_10_2015_MSU.pdf

According to the maps, the areas with lower soil moisture than normal (north-central and northern Alberta) have a higher than normal snowpack, while the areas with a lower snowpack (extreme southern Alberta [from Calgary to border]) have significantly higher than normal soil moisture for this time of year. So with that in mind, it looks like it will balance out. The mountains to Calgary's southeast also have a significantly higher than average snow pack, so hopefully things will be fine in the south where the danger of drought this year is very real (considering no precipitation forecast for the entirety of what is usually our snowiest month).

Thanks for the link.
So it's snow pack in stubble fields in the first chart. Much of the land to the southeast of Calgary, with low snowpack, is irrigated, and IIRC accounts for much of Albertas agricultural production.

It looks like another day of slightly above average temperatures in Vancouver and way above average inland. Abottsford officially hit 16 yesterday, 18 in Osoyoos.

Winter is done!

Already hit +10 today. T-Shirt and Shorts 30 kilometre dog walk was beautiful from 109th & high level to Buena Vista, Ft. Edmonton Park and back. Didn't want to come home.

Well more like a marathon hike. Good training with back country hiking in the Rockies almost upon us.

Stunning day with some areas of the city hitting close to 20C. Buds are out on the trees

First signs of spring in my yard.

hmmmm I'm coming to the same conclusion this side of the Rockies within this part of Western Canada too Metro-one..

Most of the Prairie Provinces including Northern Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba was well below normal temp for the month of February.
Calgary mean temp was only 3ºC or 4ºC above normal in Dec & Jan, Feb ended up within a single degree above of normal mean. Last November was 3ºC below normal.
.
Edmonton mean temp was about 2ºC colder than normal for Nov & Feb but about 2ºC above for Dec & Jan.
Regina & Winnipeg were similar as Edmonton with being below a few degrees of normal for Nov & Feb but 2ºC or 3ºC above for Dec & Jan.

Over all for the Prairies last four months it was colder than normal for November and February and warmer than normal for December and January, which makes saying "4th month in a row of extremely above normal temps" a little misleading if not untrue.

It's pretty bad when the sun through your window wakes you up and the first thing you think is, "Jesus fuck damn it" because you know that means you're still in Siberia.

-9C right now. FFS.

Lol what a joke, seriously do you actually go outside?

I didn't even wear my hat today, it was actually perfectly nice.

My feet were dry, and there was no wind.

Not to mention actual sunshinse.

Like this photo, I discovered over the last few weeks why you don't notice the actual weather.

Downtown is always so well cleared of snow, it's actually quite liveable in winter.

In the past I usually ignore downtown in winter because getting there is such a pain, but it's actually awesome for walking around, and more ironically quite flat.

I can't get the chill out of my back even in the office. And my feet are still cold.

Totally not joking: give me RDF and 3C over this any day.

*****

Re: Downtown. I wouldn't call it flat - it's the steepest part of the city. The cross streets are all pretty flat but you still have to walk down there and back up. If you turned left onto any side street in that photo it'd be a very steep incline.

But yeah they've been very good with snow removal this year. We get less downtown than up in the suburbs anyway. Same as when it's foggy. Usually the fog is about at the elevation of Signal Hill or The Rooms. So you can't see across the street in the suburbs, but downtown it's clear as a bell with a low ceiling.

No. If you want that type of weather, we all cast you to your own island even further in the ocean

You can call it Newfoundland 2.

What was that from again? Some satire paper?

And I'm shocked at you! I didn't know you were a cold-lover too!

Yes sir, ya twoser

I'm not a cold lover, but 3 degrees and RDF is that bad part of the weather spectrum where no matter what you do, you're going to be wet and cold. At least when it's -9, you can throw on an extra sweater and huff along without noticing it too much.
