I find that, sometimes depending solely on sheer luck, many Canadians often come back with diametrically opposed opinions of the exact same places in the US. It's dependent on which part of town they ended up in.
Those are very good points. With that in mind, New England is consistently nicer than the Maritimes despite being cut from the same cloth. Places like Mahone Bay and Chester in Nova Scotia could easily double for a prosperous NE town though. Then again, as soon as you step foot inside shops, homes, restaurants the merchandise/decor are noticeably less nice once again.

I haven't said anything of the sort. I said I wouldn't be surprised if things in BC were nicer than things in the neighbouring state to the south. It was specifically in reference to those border communities 'Metro-One' alluded to. Btw, I haven't been to Seattle but a lot of people who's opinion I value do prefer Vancouver.

I should really put together a photo thread of where I deliver to. Low rise residential Toronto is where the city shines architecturally imo.
I look forward to viewing it. I wish Cabbagetown was the norm in Toronto, but we have far too little of that and far too much stuff that looks like Lansdowne.

You're right that Torontonians spend a lot of money fixing their interiors. We are beautifying at a rapid pace, but out of necessity. We're becoming a sophisticated town but most of our housing doesn't square with this new reality. Splurging on interiors is often the only option. Yonge Street is a good case in point. To someone who didn't know better, you'd never guess that you were on the main street in the biggest city of a wealthy western nation.

The bulk of our housing reflects the type of city we were from 1880-1980: blue colllar industrial with a small monied establishment in Rosedale.

To be honest, I've never been much of a fan of Montreal's skyline, but this is pretty amazing. What a beautiful shot.

I very much disagree.

Looking at the rest of your posts in the last few pages I'd have to agree with Metro-One that this is a bit of "grass is greener" mentality.

Try as some might to make it about that, it's not really a question of "better" or "worse" or "greener".

There is simply "more" of everything in the U.S. This we have to admit.

We have more Francophones, so we've probably got more French style tin rooves and whatnot.

You said more of everything. So I thought I would nitpick. We've probably got more igloos too. Less Adobe stuff though.
