We have the same fetish, my friend.

It drives me crazy as well when the lights are off. I didn't know WTCU had a set up. Anyone got a picture?

Good to hear. I was wondering for a while if the project had been permanently stalled.

Drove by cottonwood corp center. It's disgusting. We could get (assuming those buildings are 8 stories) quite a few more in downtown.

I'll try and start doing updates of the Denver street and 111 tower from the train and the new u of u building from my phone soon. I should also be able to catch some other buildings in my updates, but they will just be one picture at one angle.

Any corporate center is disgusting - and not merely because they take away from the downtown. I get we can't have every commercial office space in downtown SLC. The problem is that corporate centers are space wasters and don't engage any city whatsoever. They're isolated, one-trick monstrosities that suck life out of any city they're located in.

Imagine if, instead of a corporate center, these offices were built in a downtown-like fashion for the area? Mix them with parking, retail and residential.

But this is such wasted space.

And to think, they're adding more office buildings to that area to this day.

And they are all so damn ugly.

I wish the county would step in and enforce minimal suburban development and instead allow downtown to flourish.

I don't see how NIMBY's are the reason that doesn't happen. That ugly office park is in a lot of people's back yards.

That area could've been something. It's actually really pretty, how it sits up like that. Its location next to the freeway is also ideal - and the land is pretty big. So, had the county leaders had any foresight in the past, they would've developed a decent looking core there that would be infinitely better than this junk.

Alas...

Wasn't somthing suppose to be built on the SW corner of 600 South and state? They tore everything down a while ago.. Now there is a "For Sale" sign on the empty lot.

The District Attorney's Office. The money allocated for the project was spent on different things.

The DA has purchased property on Main Street to build on instead.

Deleted all the posts about how many SLC threads there are because that's off-topic for the main development thread, which is to talk about development.

If people would like to open a new thread to talk about that issue, or use the ongoing chit chat thread, that's fine. Or we can drop it, because there's no rule against having a lot of threads as long as it's not spamming.

Either way, let's try not to clutter the main development thread, or have another Denver/SLC pissing match.

Amen.
And if there is any photographers up in the East Millcreek area, Tanner park has an awesome viewpoint from the pavilion benches just north of the parking lot. You'll find the western most bench to have an opening from the trees that gives a great view from the semi-near southeast.
Maybe second best vantage point after the 5th south, 10th east shot.
