They could have guaranteed the basket weave this way, and that whole section would have been pre-built for us in 1999 dollars. It would have also had the benefit of not having to shut down the bus loop, as no construction would have been required in the station area. They should have also finished the third platform roof and track as part of original construction, and in the meantime the third platform could have been used for train storage like Stadium station.

Also I guarantee you that if the station and basket weave were fully completed as part of the original Millennium Line construction, we would have gotten the Evergreen Line alot sooner as the guideway hanging over Gatineau like an albatross would have been a constant every day reminder to the public that the M-Line was built for this extension, we've invested money into being ready for the extension and that the extension needs to be done.

Do you know that the average person has/had no idea that Lougheed station was pre-built for the Evergreen Line? The general public is just so ignorant (and some just so dumb), that even staring at the third unfinished platform in plain sight, they didn't even know what they were looking at, that's if they even noticed it. Almost like if you showed a cow a cell phone, completely oblivious.
You're preaching to the coverted here, its a big mistake not to build the Evergreen Line from the get go back in 2002. But we have no time machine to correct the mistakes of Ujjal Dosanjh or Glen Clark, and to build the Evergreen Line (then PMC Line) first as John Kingsbury was pushing for.

But at the end of the day, the basketweave is gone, it will never return. So the best course of action is to simply finish the guideways at North Road so the entire project can move forward. Even the visible continuous extension from Lougheed up to the South Tunnel Portal would be lightyears ahead of making the area look beautiful, since despite the trains not running yet, the Skytrain Line would still look extended.

So instead of whining about things that can never be undone, or trivial things like station roofs, all energy should be put into moving this project forward, starting with making the gantry crane operational to start lifting guideway segments from Foster Avenue to Gatineau Place ASAP!

I don't have a pic of this but this video shows what I was referring too. The end of the Lougheed steel guideway is at 0.49 of the clip.

This was only uploaded yesterday, but unfortunately he started south of Foster Avenue so we have no idea whether there has been any movement of the gantry crane since the incident.

I can provide an update with regard to the gantry crane: Since the incident occurred, there has been no progress with the guideway construction on North Rd. I drove by today and they are still one column away from Foster Ave. Extremely disappointing.

Le sigh...I feel that a part of me died today.

When the Port Mann gantry crane incident took place, was there any delays and how long?

You guys are funny, this really isn't that huge of a delay in a project of this size.

Incidents such as this are more common than you think.

People seem to have short term memory loss quite often on this forum.

The gantry crane on the Port Mann collapsed only a couple year ago, dropping a segment into the river. That was much more major than this.

A crane truck operator died while constructing the North Arm bridge of the Canada Line.

And I believe someone also dies while constructing the Millennium Line.

And lets not forget BCs largest construction collapse, then entire Iron Worker's Memorial Bridge (hence the name).

It is a good thing that our boring machine isn't having the problems / delays of the one in Seattle, people here would be going nuts!

That maybe true but this is the Evergreen Line we're talking about. Delay seems to be a common theme regarding this project, given that its been delayed for many many years. So until the guideways are up and the tunnel is done, which are really the components that, if something bad happens, can REALLY delay the project, gotta hold your breathes. Someone f*cked up on the controls of the gantry, the project gets delayed in a week. Imagine a Port Mann style accident....yikes! And if the Seattle type of issue happens...oh my!

Besides...the sooner the guideways are complete from Lougheed Station to the South Tunnel portal area, the better. It will bring closure to that eyesore that was the Lougheed Station stubs that has plagued us for the past decade or so...

I don't think it is fair to compare a construction delay to a to the delay of proposed projects (I don't think that any of the previous evergreen line ever had hard dates set or contracts even put out to tender). even with the previous construction issue they seem to be ahead of schedule.

Yeah, I am not worried at all. I think to pull the plug on this project now would be beyond political suicide, hehe, it would be political mass suicide bombing. This isn't Honolulu

No visuals for you, but I saw that the concrete guideway walls have been poured and are being finished for the first section of the curves at Lougheed, and the second section looks like it might have been poured this afternoon.

Running rail fasteners have been installed on the outbound going up about 1/3 of the way to the steel curves, and on the west side they've been installed leading out to the switch.

The metal roofing on the Lougheed platform might look cheap to some of you, but from what I can tell, it matches the existing Lougheed roof and several other Millennium Line stations. Complain all you want, I'm going to remain cautiously optimistic

Does this mean they have now taken out the wooden forms out of the first section of the curves?

Edit: I found an excuse to go to the Lougheed area myself this morning and the wooden forms are still there. From the point of view on the ground, there wouldn't be any difference.

Of course, a drive by Foster Avenue shows that they are indeed working on the guideways. The segments are up to just before Foster Avenue but they are not all connected yet.

Interestingly enough, the platform at the second column south of Foster (the empty one, without a gantry crane component sitting on atm) seems to be brand new and freshly painted. The colour is drastically different from the others. Either its a brand new platform or the damaged one that has since been repaired.

I ran a timelapse for the north tunnel portal on the contractor vebcam site,
and for the last week there has been no dump truck activity for dirt
removal, so I would guess tunneling has halted. The only activity in
the last few days is the construction of what appears to be a security checkpoint
shelter.

It looked like they had. I'll try to get a video next time I'm through there.

Work stopped on June 19th. It was supposed to start up again on the 25th but didn't.

What's that suppose to mean...

Anyways, went to Cumare's (sp) last nite for some cake. Happy to report that the guideway segments just north of Foster Avenue has been complete.

It was pretty fast considering that the segments were still unconnected in the morning (around 9 am), then the whole thing done by the evening. The gantry should move above Foster Avenue by Monday for sure...hopefully with no issues.
