I drove by on North Road at 11 pm today and it actually seems like the gantry crane has been repositioned and is back in its original position :O I have no idea how they did it, but it seemed to me like everything was fixed. Maybe it was dark and I didn't see properly. There were no crews on the scene, and all the lanes were open.

This seems to be pretty common in BC, remember the gantry crane putting together the new Port Mann Bridge also collapsed, dropping one segment in to the river, only a couple years ago.

Looks like BC in general needs a gantry crane safety review...

Except for the crushed platform seen at the right, it seems the gantry is okay and being moved forward per normal. We shall find out in the morning, I guess...

So it appears there isn't any -um- slippage in the schedule.

Hopefully the only injuries are the workers' pride.

It's reported that the entire project is ahead of schedule so hopefully we can get an earlier opening!

It's easy to be ahead of schedule when you build a huge buffer into your schedule.

I think you could fill a book with the mistakes on the north rd segment. I think it is because the consortium was not ready to tackle the scope of work. They had no crews before so had to hire everyone. I live in the area and have worked with a few guys on the project.

I think the icing on the cake was when they poured the cameron columns wrong and had to cut them off and replace them.. These now could be a weak points in the future

If you look on the PM1 forum. They were ahead schedule up until they were behind. I was on nites in the spring of 08 when the project started. done by 2013. then it was done by 2012. Its all about marketing and media

Oh bloody hell!!! Delays and more delays have been a central theme for this particular rapid transit line since its inception!

Ahead of schedule????

Except that the 2008 revised business case proposing SkyTrain technology for the Evergreen Line gave a completion date of 2014. Except that several year of detailed design for LRT on the route had scheduled completion for 2011. And except that the original Millennium Line plan included connections to Coquitlam to be built by 2002.

I doubt this will cause any more disruption than investigation into what happened to the beam that slipped over Como Lake Ave. It's pretty likely they'll find that somebody goofed and will put in some sort of double-check to make sure it doesn't happen again. The fact that they were able to start using the gantry again almost immediately means it probably wasn't an equipment failure.

In brighter news, there might be hope for Lougheed station not looking like an oversized bus shelter. It appears that instead of glass roofing, they're using sheet metal, which looks like it matches the corrugated metal used for the roof of the existing platform.

It looked like they poured the concrete sides for the first section of the curved inbound guideway some time today, and you can see in the video that they are adding clips for the running rails to the concrete pieces of the outbound guideway.
Now they just need to move all those tarps so we can see what they've done around that switch...

Thanks for the video. Even without the basket weave that rail interchange looks pretty cool and definitely adds much more of a urban feel to Lougheed Town Centre.

Yeah, that looks even worse than the glass. It almost looks like they went to Home Depot down on United Boulevard and picked up the cheapest siding they could find.

You know, if they just completed the roof as per the original design and the basket weave, I would have had zero complaints about the Evergreen Line. For all intents and purposes, it would have been perfect not withstanding these two items.

What is the true eyesore is the fact that Skytrain is only technically extended up to North Road south of Gatineau Place and the rest of the columns between that and just north of Foster Avenue have nothing on top of them!

You know where the guideway ends right now at Gatineau, I wish when the Millennium line was built, they built it up to there instead of just the stubs. They could have guaranteed the basket weave this way, and that whole section would have been pre-built for us in 1999 dollars. It would have also had the benefit of not having to shut down the bus loop, as no construction would have been required in the station area. They should have also finished the third platform roof and track as part of original construction, and in the meantime the third platform could have been used for train storage like Stadium station.

Also I guarantee you that if the station and basket weave were fully completed as part of the original Millennium Line construction, we would have gotten the Evergreen Line alot sooner as the guideway hanging over Gatineau like an albatross would have been a constant every day reminder to the public that the M-Line was built for this extension, we've invested money into being ready for the extension and that the extension needs to be done.

Do you know that the average person has/had no idea that Lougheed station was pre-built for the Evergreen Line? The general public is just so ignorant (and some just so dumb), that even staring at the third unfinished platform in plain sight, they didn't even know what they were looking at, that's if they even noticed it. Almost like if you showed a cow a cell phone, completely oblivious.
