Any tips on how to get on one of these big birds during the "crew training" flights? Will the schedules be posted (ie. aircanada.com) or will it likely be a last minute day-of tail swap.

My guess is that these flights for the 788 will not be input into the reservation system, but will be last minute tail swaps. Show up at checkin to find out whether your flight has been upgraded from 320.

The only other piece of advice, there is an odd rotation in the reservation system concerning AC 1150 and AC119. Some flights in late April are listed as 763 equipment but they do not connect to AC9/10 or any other 763 equipment. Additionally the 763 turnaround times are far too long for a simple drop off pax and immediate return to YYZ.

Coincidentally, it seems fin 634 will be the next 763 to go to Rouge in March (good because her paint is noticeably fading), and will have winglets installed. It's a Pratt & Whitney 763 built 1995.

I think Westjet will most certainly go with the 787 (or used 767s) when/if they get widebodies.

I would be very surprised if WS went straight to the 788 or any new generation aircraft. My guess is that WS will pick up half dozen 763 or 332 used aircraft to test out the waters of TransAt service before committing to brand new aircraft.

For one, any new 788 order will be pricey aircraft as the delivery delays expenses will have not worked out of the system.

Secondly good luck getting delivery position in the next 5-7 years. The 787-10 pretty much took up all the new capacity that Boeing had available through projected production increases.

Thirdly due to shortage of delivery positions, the lease companies are going to be looking for top dollar on late model 788.

But finally, a new 788 in WS current brand scheme would have well over 300 seats considering they are likely to go the slim-line route and would not also feature the Business Class cabin. Its a tough sell to get 300 seats filled from day one.

I meant to say they will stay with Boeing.

Terrible trip costs aside, they should grab some of the 762 that AC has stored in the desert.

The AC 762 fleet was retired very short of an expensive D check. The only place these aircraft re going is to the coke can shop.

Very shortly the will be many 763 come available on short term lease. Should be very easy to get a homogeneous fleet.

I know someone at an airline in the US who said Boeing approached them about some early 787-8's with a proposition along the lines of "pleasantly plump, as-is, where-is, best offer."

ANA dumped a few early build 788, these airplanes have all ready found new homes. Only a few of these early build airplanes have been delivered, the rest are awaiting significant rework at Charleston or Everett.

ANA dumped the early builds about the time that Qantas dropped their airframe requirements.

Saw some guys working on the ALSF-2 lighting for 17L the other day. New runway will be only the 6th and 7th CAT III ILS approaches in Canada, after 05 and 06L at YYZ, and 08L/26R and 08R at YVR. YHZ, YHM, YWG, YMX, YUL and YYT have CAT II.

How often do we have CAT III days? Maybe 2 or 3 times a year? Nice to have it there either way, I suppose.

AC updating summer scheds

Stand by...

Over the next few days looks like AC is updating its summer scheds.

787s being put on YYZ-YUL in May June and July... Look for more additions soon.

Also, LAX being upguaged to 319s on both daily flights.
YYZ will see more 321 action.
As mentioned previously, YUL going to 5 daily.

YQF (Red Moose) looks like being decreased to 2 daily only.

Not much else noted yet.

How cool is this lineup on YYZ-LHR for early June?

763, 77L, 788, 77W.

Looks like British Airways 763 G-BNWO stuck here at YYC since Friday. They had it as BA1102 sked for last night but no sign of departing again.

I booked my flight to Iceland a couple months ago when they first announced. It will be my kid's first trip! Can't wait for August. My brother is also flying through KEF to go to AMS in May. He said that the connections were very cheap as well, only 750 or so total.
