tuffyy, I have two sisters stranded in CUN waiting for their WS 738 to come down from YYZ before turning to operate the YYC flight.

I don't feel sorry for them at all.

That 738 is Mickey! She is 9 hours behind sked but they're lucky a plane is going down there at all. Most of YYZ cancelled today.

I just saw that they are getting the Mickeyjet, now I'm super jealous.

They pretty much have spent all day at the CUN airport, had a good buddy from WS keeping me in the loop on their flight. The plane routed YEG-YYZ-CUN-YYC.

She'll be able to catch up tomorrow, flying YYC-LAS-YQR-LAS-YYC.

No UA, but I did that flight with Continental back in '05. YYC-IAH-LGA and back. Was the cheapest way to get to LGA.

Also, last summer I did YYC-DFW-LGA, once again cheapest routing and got lots of AA miles lol

WestJet’s new regional carrier Encore struggling with on-time performance

This quote from Ben Cherniavsky is the best:
Quote:
“The whole point is, you can’t underestimate how critical the simplicity of the WestJet business model in its early days was to its success,” he added.
What is not mentioned in this article is that a big reason for Encore poor OTP is lack of parallel runway at YYC and the associated delays caused by ground stops/holds. AC Express faces the same issues as Encore. The parallel and associated renovation to the SIDS, STARS, and ATC playbook for Alberta can't come fast enough.

I think a lot of people (general public) don't realize how close the field/gates are to capacity and how often there's flow control and holding for YYC. Pretty much everyday.

Heck I remember hearing flow control on the ATIS back in 1999-2003.

Acey, was the Mickey jet on it's way to LAS this morning? On flightaware, it showed a 738 arrival from YYC, but the departure to YQR is with a 737. I was hoping to run out to YQR when it arrives to take a look at it today.

Hey, we're trying our best...

YYC gets a disproportionate amount of shite , meaning inclement, weather that some other aerodromes don't. If it's windy (chinook) it's VFR but then we're on 29/26 and that means we'll be holding. If it isn't windy, then it's often IFR, then we're most definitely holding. Strangely, this appears to happen most often Tues-Thurs, our busiest days of the week. Either way, unless it's a calm day with perfect CAVOK weather, there will be delays, and even then there can be just too many planes trying to come in all at once. With AC/Jazz battling WS/WS Encore, they're in a fight for best flight times. Congestion ensues. The STARS, SIDS, airspace have now all been modified, just waiting on the behemoth to open.

They lied to me. Haha WS had it scheduled to fly that LAS rotation but at the last minute it went to PHX. I'm giving up trying to predict for a couple of days because with all the cancellations everything is a mess. She didn't leave for PHX till closer to 11.

They might have sent a 738 to YYZ to try to make up seats, so they were short one out here. I'll look at it now and try to figure out where she could be going tomorrow. I'm surprised it doesn't happen more often, that 1402, 1460, 1470, 1564, etc. don't get subbed for a -700 to shift around capacity. Mickey has been flying pretty straight forward rotations since I started tracking.

Some rumours WS might charter a 747 to help with the YYC-YYZ-YYC backlog, could happen as early as tomorrow.

I wonder whose 747 they'd use. Looks like flights 652 and 648 will fly tonight so at least that's a start.

I heard something today about AC 844 going YYC-YYZ-FRA tonight, that didn't make a whole lot of sense so it's no surprise it didn't happen.

I'm hearing Atlas Air with the 744 but not in to YYC until 2330 tomorrow.
