After prying for info about the cargo airline adding YEG I'm hearing its UPS with its own metal (757PF) from Louisville.

I ordered 2 each: unlocked iphone 5's and ipad mini's. The route was gruelling and I wondered why UPS needed to go through the US to get them to me...and if so why not direct to Edmonton from Louisville. As it was Seattle, Richmind, Calgary depots all saw my order.

It would make sense, although UPS has invested heavily in YYC in terms of a facility so has FedEx and yet YEG see's several flights during the operating week by FedEx who has its own operating facility at YEG. UPS is just as major a carrier as FedEx and yet does not service Edmonton with direct flights. Currently most shipments are trucked up from YYC and also flown in on a couple of metroliners (operated by Sunwest). It's about time UPS competed with FedEx into YEG who has clearly shown YEG is just as important by up gauging to A310's and more recently A300's. Maybe it's the push UPS needed to see it was missing a link...

Purolator (727), CargoJet (727), Nolinor (on behalf of DHL using a 737) and if you want to count the little guys Sunwest and CarsonAir flights on behalf of UPS and Canada Post respectively.

whats the airline and when does it start that will have direct edmonton - new york flights? i need to go in april... so far looking at flights they all go via toronto if with air canada or i could try a us airline and go via chicago,cincinati or minnepolis but the flight change times are so small, some of them only give you 45 minutes to make a connection... been there done that before and missed a flight

I doubt UPS based on the YYC facility but could be wrong. Plus the are an awful courier. My money is on purolator. The current facility is old without good airside access. New facility would give them better efficiencies.

Air Transat will offer just one flight per week from Edmonton-London Gatwick this summer using a A330-200.

In addition they will also offer service to Cancun and Puerto Vallarta using CanJet 737-800's once per week respectively.

That's the other rumor. However I'm baffled why ERAA wouldn't just say it out loud? It's really just a simple move and not a new carrier? I would have stated "we are working with purolator to become the second anchor tenant of the new cargo village". But then again, a little hype seems to be the new news maker for YEG with minor announcements. Just my .02 cents.

^^ nope... I responded to his tweet and he's simply saying "more details to follow". The only detail I have is that it's arriving from Prestwick as per his initial tweet.

Our ipad came to YYC via Hong Kong, Tokyo, Anchorage, Louisville, Toronto.

I have some friends at Prestwick and have just emailed them off...at worst they should be able to let me know when it arrives/departs there

Last time it came in, the EIA set up a special webcam for it, which presumably they had to do with a bit of notice...so perhaps they know more info.

As per the fuel release they have for it. It shows the origin as Prestwick and the destination as Keflavik. Arrival says TBA same as departure according to him. Im sure that's not the final destination but rather a tech stop enroute to its intended destination?

Still waiting for the "imminent" announcement by the airport about the new cargo tenant aswell.

Yup, I see an updated OAG thread on airliners.net showing the reduction to 1x daily from June onwards in both YYC and YEG.

Actually, US returns to 2 daily YYC-PHX effective 2 July for the rest of the summer. A temporary reduction to 1 daily from about mid - May to the end of June only.
