For suburbs, sure. And indeed in the metro region it is a thing (or is becoming one) to put residential towers atop malls and transit hubs.

For a centralized downtown commercial and business district like this one, most cities tend to be reluctant for planning purposes to zone them for anything other than commercial uses (including hotel).
Often with good reason.

But these are not normal times we're living in, so it wouldn't be completely out of the question.

It's a key location and a great opportunity for something really exciting for that landmark building/site, so hopefully they can cook up something really impressive.

Back in the Phillip Owen/Larry Campbell Days we had too many of commercial sites in the downtown core that were being redeveloped to condos. We need to ensure there is enough space for future commercial growth. That intersection is pretty much the heart of downtown.

The ticketing hall itself is under Seymour Street.
The only aspect of the station under the Hudson's Bay Building is the retail concourse from Granville and the staircase on Seymour.
With the entrance on Dunsmuir, they could close off that entrance like they did for the escalator replacement if they intent to excavate deeply.
If anyone has any sense, they'd negotiate a temporary RoW with Holborn and build a temporary station entrance to the ticketing hall using the Dollarama escalator and basement area under the Bay Parkade.

Maybe they'll wait for the Holborn project to finish since they would also need their parking spots. It'll be a mess with their traffic circulation down those back lanes/Hudson's parkade access... maybe buy out Gotham and turn the Seymour side into more of a two-way access.

I was thinking that too, but given Holborn's record, that could be 10-20 years!
I was also wondering if they would excavate down to create underground parking - SkyTrain is not below the building.

I also seem to recall that both Gotham and St. Regis Hotel transferred density to The Hudson condo building.

I will be Live Streaming it, not has fancinating has the Sun Run, for the BMO Marathon, when they get to the bridge it's at the 29.5 km mark of a 42 km race, so it's a slow trickle of runners.

Thanks jollyburger, next week they will be on the west half of the bridge. If it wasn't for the BMO Marathon, I think they would have worked that other half tomorrow.
For the BMO Marathon, the Burrard Brigde is not fully closed like for the Sun Run.

I am not very familiar with downtown, this is 1810 Alebrni. If there is a dedicated thread for it, please feel free to repost there. This one is basically topped out.

Lots of trees planted along 4th/Robson and elsewhere to replace the diseased Ash trees, a scrubbing of the Burrard St bridge, and new banners going up on empty storefronts. Must be getting close to the World Cup

So what's the latest thought process on who is taking 450 West Georgia? I feel like we're going to get a SAVE ON FOODS talking both floors ..... OR a Nesters on the top floor with the Woodward's location and Seymour Street locations closing and then a London Drugs on the ground floor with the Granville Street London Drugs closing. And even if we do get a two-floor Save-on, I still feel like both those Nesters stores are on the chopping block if that happens.

Unless something has changed, there will be a 22,000 sq. ft. grocery store on the second level and a 16,000 sq. ft. pharmacy on the ground level. There was speculation on here about who might take the units when it was announced, but it doesn't seem like Austerville have confirmed their tenants yet (assuming they're signed up).

I've heard the same. I'm not sure the tenants were meant to be formally disclosed yet, but word has apparently gotten out.

I'm out of the loop and missed "the word...".. is it Save On?

So we will have two very large grocery stores pretty much kitty corner to each other? and the IGA a block away on Robson

nice part of the city to live for sure, very high walk index !

What is the timeline on when it will be open?
