Why open a single lane?

The 1 lane only goes to Columbia eastbound so it probably offers a movement that would otherwise be blocked.

They (the government) made a promise it would open by Christmas, so they can fulfill that promise.

Take advantage of the "5 lane bridge" while you can!

thats sneaky, I drove over the old one last week and I was wondering how they would get that mess of a north end ready to open in a week, there was just nothing ready or leveled.

will have to see how this extra lane affects the morning commutes, it will at least eliminate a some traffic.

If there is an eastbound lane that exits onto Columbia St northbound, i can see the 3rd 'exit only' lane similar to the cassiar tunnel set-up happening at some point in the future. It makes way more sense to already have this installed. This should be a 6 lane bridge already.

I drove over it yesterday, its a limit of 30 and there is so much equipment, fencing and things on either side, at the end it got a bit confusing cause I think I just drove through a red light cause the way it ends the lane doesn't have a clear are that you are meant to stop, luckily traffic was light, they need to figure that out. Also new signage has been installed on new structures placed in front of the old signage looks like a last minute oh we better put signage up. There is not much to see from it as its all fenced off still on the side. It makes getting to Sapperton etc easier at least.

Haha, well said and perfect comment. Anyone claiming to use or remember ANY of these is talking out of their arse. And that includes indigenous people. :poopemoji:

Did anyone else notice how irregular the asphalt surface was in the open lane? It hardly feels like new pavement that we were driving on when we crossed it. I noticed lots of small undulations driving on it.

It makes you wonder how rushed they were ahead of the lane opening. Recent weather isn't exactly ideal for paving and concrete work.

Yeah, it was not good. Hopefully that isn't the final version.

I went over it a second time and the traffic light at the end was functioning properly. The lane has a dedicated light over it now.

A full signal or just a continuous green arrow?

The final configuration as shown is with the off-ramp joining Columbia in a dedicated lane after the McBride intersection. If the off-ramp is currently controlled as part of the intersection that should be temporary.

a green arrow, the first time I crossed it just showed the red light to the left lane and I was a little confused if I am supposed to stop or not.

And because they've met their politician-approved "opening" before the end of 2025, they've closed that lane down today with no indication on when it'll re-open. https://www.pattullobridgereplacement.ca...%99w%CC%93as%C9%99m-Riverview-Bridge.pdf

I recently heard a news item about the new bridge and the reporter pronounced the indigenous name in a way that sounded for all the world to me like "Still Awesome". That I can remember, so it's what I'm going with...

While dissimilar, this reminds me of how the USSR rushed to get the Tu-144 supersonic passenger jet in the air on Dec 31, 1968 (to meet the end-of-year deadline) and to make sure it beat the Concord to first flight. It took until 1975 before it entered commercial service and then it quickly switched over to air mail service before retiring the thing because it was so loud inside that passengers had to shout to be heard by their seatmate.

Traffic is being switched to the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge in phases to allow for completion of the tie-ins to existing
roadways on either side.
At approximately 5 a.m. on Monday, January 5, the one northbound lane on the stal̕əw̓asəm (Riverview) Bridge will
temporarily close. All traffic will continue to use the Pattullo Bridge.
Subsequent traffic phases will take place in January and involve various lane configurations, including a one-week
closure of both bridges anticipated in mid to late January. This work is weather dependent, and specific dates will be
communicated when they are confirmed.
