Saw a listing for a 'Collective Soul" concert March 15,2025 at JagSoundHouse ! Seems this
project is nearing completion - https://jagsoundhouse.ca/ The design is a basic bowl with stage
at one end, general admission on the floor and two levels of extra-priced seats around the top.
Unlike MB Centre, their website allows you to pick your seat.

The demolition of the former Booth High School has resumed. Looked like it was near completed a few days ago. Wondering if development of that site will start soon?

Love this proposal for the West End Fire Station. There is a link to the proposal within the article.

The All NL is reporting a proposal for the old Lawrence College site on LeMarchant Road for an apartment building that will house a mix of every type of unit from 2000 sq feet units to micro units. It's also 16 stories.

There hasn't been any activity on this site in months. It was a bee hive of activity then just stopped.

This is a larger proposal for St. John's than I have seen in a while, what are the chances of it being built?

Is a 16-storey, 400-unit apartment building the right fit for Lemarchant Road?

Get it approved! The size of this should not be considered a radical to controversial proposal.

The overall design is okay, nothing overly great but I think it’ll look alright in that area.

I will go on record now as saying you will NEVER see this building on LeMarchant Road. It will get bounced around for years and IF anything gets approved it will be different than this. Remember the various projects that were proposed for Temprance St? Still an empty lot. Should it be approved? yes, 100%, but sadly that's not what happens here. We are running about 20 projects of this size behind Halifax.

I agree with you 100%. When the city approves this building in 5 years time as a 6 story building, the developer will be long moved on. I would love to see more projects like this happen, but nothing seems to happen in this city. Every time I log on to any of the local threads, whether it be the main thread, retail, restaurant thread, etc, it's a dismal reminder of what little goes on here compared to anywhere else. Putting big cities aside such as Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver, you just look at the Atlantic Canada threads. Cities like Halifax, Moncton, and Fredericton are bustling with projects. Condos and apartment buildings are going up everywhere in those cites, while the big story here is "duplex finally gets approval". For #%$# sake, the story of the year in St. John's is that we may be getting a Taco Bell. Between miles of red tape and archaic ideals, I'm afraid nothing is gonna change anytime soon

Let us not forget about the Tiffany condo development. A thread was created on this site specifically for this project. Now it's buried deep below - I just checked and the last comment was sometime in 2020! I understand this particular project is primarily for rich retirees and won't necessarily help the housing crunch here in the city. But my point still stands regarding the lack of vision and desire needed to move most projects forward. It's rather exhausting to be honest.

That goes for many of the threads way down below.

The CBC Radio condo project which has pages of elevations and pics

The Atlantic Place Park Garage Hotel another one which vanished

A lot of these proposals just end up dying in the red tape. Not saying that due diligence shouldn't happen, but between re-zoning, parking restrictions, height restrictions, public meetings, and heritage by-laws, it becomes such a slow and messy process to navigate that projects just end up not being feasible.

Atlantic Place hotel was never going to happen; we were going to spend years fighting over whether it was allowable or not. I'm more curious in the apartment building complex that was proposed adjacent to Atlantic Place parking though. Council was pretty open to it, and quickly green lit zoning amendments, but now it's almost been a year with no other news.

Great idea, kind of bland, not much of a "vision", but hey, why not get the ball rolling.

In a footnote, the co-owner of the Brookfield District development and Urban Market, Ivy Hanley, has thrown her hat into the ring to challenge Mayor Danny Breen for his chair in the upcoming municipal election.

No new st. Clare's

Wakeham and his PC's have CANCELLED the new St. Clare's replacement at Kenmount Crossing. They will look at ways to redevelop the current St. Clare's.
This is a major blow for that area of Metro which is currently under much development with the anticipation of this facility in the area. It's also a major for Paradise as I'm certain they will not be getting that much needed interchange with the Outer Ring to alleviate traffic. And most of all, it's a major blow for health care. This was a much needed facility.

The St. Clare's replacement is located in the wrong area. It seems like it was. scheme for Furey's buddies to enrich themselves with the sale of the land. And how does this project cost $10B? The new St. Paul's Hospital under construction in Vancouver is expected to cost $2.18B.

I don't have a problem with the location, but the land deal was political pork if ever there was. I have no idea if $10 Billion for a hospital has any basis in reality - even $2 Billion seems outrageous.
