As a general rule, any sentence that begins "The Jews" probably needs sober second thought before continuing.

Disagree. It seems like a legitimate claim to say they have used the guilt for many years. The way I see it it's a card and they played it so I don't see anything wrong with that. It works for them well in Germany a key voice for Israel in Europe. And rightly so.

There are other groups using guilt to shake us down for money right here in Canada so calling this group out seems suspect but it seems open for debate at least.

True enough. One busybody with authority working in what is supposed to be a nonpartisan capacity feeling the need to campaign is not the same thing as a busybody feeling the need to publicly police what she axiomatically feels must surely be the only acceptable political orientation without fear of scorn or rebuke.

Even so, I would suggest that the fact that literally zero conservatives have disagreed with the election worker's reprimand, and that literally zero conservatives among the forty or so voters lined up within earshot at my polling station thought a vocal kerfuffle with the snide Liberal voter was worth their time, effort and/or social media notoriety, suggests that the "is anyone surprised she was conservative?" smear is just baseless partisan nonsense.

That conservatives sometimes engage in too, of course.

I'm wondering how many people saw this video from popular education channel Kurzgesagt? I'm not usually a big video poster but it's less than 15 minutes and talks about the looming demographics crisis in South Korea caused by the ultra-low birthrate combined with a lack of immigration. While I share some of the concerns about the rate at which Canada is growing through immigration. But the fact is, Canada's birthrate is well below replacement levels and that will cause major problems down the road if not addressed. But other than isaidso, pretty much all the discussion I hear about immigration in these parts is negative. High immigration rates can seem arbitrary and harmful in the short term before the demographic problems start to manifest, but in the long term I wonder if we won't actually be thankful.

I suppose what it comes down to is, how much immigration is actually needed to stave off the kind of scenario that S. Korea faces?

Lat time I checked the stats, 80% of Israelis are Jews. I'm not sure why pointing out the truth is so offensive to some.

It's forbidden to point out an inconvenient truth, but hatred against Muslims is fair game...

Anyone who claims there is no exploitation (in Hollywood especially), in regards to the Holocaust, in order to explicit sympathy of the World, is not being honest with themselves. There have been literally hundreds of films, books, documentaries, etc. in regards to the subject. Compare that with the suffering of the Armenians, Rwandans, Cambodians, Indigenous Americans, Palestinians, Ukrainians, Bosnians, etc. It can be argued that more attention is given to the Holocaust, than every other genocide combined.

It's not a good look, when the grandchildren of Holocaust survivors in Israel become the main cheerleaders for the extermination of the people of Gaza.

There's a whole mega thread in the Skybar -> Current Events to discuss Israel, Palestine.

This is the Canada Election thread. The election is on Monday, April 28.

I voted, and I hope you all get out and exercise your right to vote as Canadians.

The fake student scheme was a failure. It was a failure on multiple fronts. We should not repeat that.

Brining in workers in agriculture and food processing is a positive. From a national security perspective we should be trying to grow and process as much food domestically as we can. The reality is this will be a low margin industry where people working on farms and food processing plants are going to make low wages.

We need to bring in workers in health care. We need to bring in workers in construction.

If we are going to try to bring manufacturing and natural resource projects to Canada we are going to need workers.

There is a whole class of highly paid positions with multi-nationals that will be moving positions from the US to Canada. Lets encourage that to happen.

Any time someone claims that an entire, huge group of people are all doing something as if they have a single mind and voice, that is not true and it encourages hatred and bigotry. Jewish people are all individuals and do not all do anything. They don't even all follow Judaism as some aren't religious and are just culturally Jewish. So yes, using the term "they" as a way to paint everyone with a negative brush is definitely not right. Not just impolite, but inaccurate.

That's not what i objected to. The majority of Jewish people don't even live in Israel or have any direct connection to it. They're spread all across several different continents and numerous countries. And not even just all Jewish people in Israel agree on anything let alone support of Netanyahu. Besides, if you want to refer to people in Israel you can just say Israelis. If you use the term "The Jews" it falsely implicates many times more people than the Jewish people in Israel who support the brutality in Gaza.

In terms of moderation these boards are filled with these kind of behavioral statements. Boomers are doing this. Men and doing that.

What about political groups. Can we say Conservatives are dismissive of climate change?

I agree there are other generalizations that aren't great either. But it's not quite the same when we're talking about a political or philosophical movement in which people group themselves together based on shared views. For those groups then yes there's a great deal of overlap in their views since that's what the group is. People with overlapping views. But it's true that there's rarely complete overlap.

That's not correct. Roughly 50% of the World's Jewish population lives in Israel. Obviously not all Jews support what the Israeli Government is doing, but to say only a small minority of them do, would be false.

The same was said during Trump 1.0 and there was even a big push at the time to encourage Canadian tech talent to move back home. That push eventually failed spectacularly.

The reality is that at the end of the day, Canada's economy is cannibalized by its perpetual real estate bubble, and Canada has nothing to show for it other than a stagnant business environment and a larger brain drain.

There's no rush of MNCs that are planning to relocate large amounts of professional staff from the US to Canada. Our situation does not compare to Singapore, who managed to position itself to capitalize on Hong Kong's professional brain drain.

Please stop referring to Israelis as The Jews.

And both of you, or anyone else that wants to discuss Israel, Palestine:
please take your discussion to the appropriate thread in the Skybar > Current Events section

Not all Jews, including not all Jews living in Israel, support the existence of Israel. Again, check yourself if youi want to speak about "the Jews".

Then just say "Israelis" and save "the Jews" nonsense for Twitter or BlueSky. Plus, this thread is about the Canadien election, not the Middle East.

I'm sorry. I forgot that it's only acceptable to target Muslims, not Jews.
