More an option for moving from your parents' basement to your parents' backyard than a SFH solution, istm.

I think you’re vastly, vastly underestimating how integral the concept of face is to Chinese people. I think you’re also probably underestimating how pervasive pro Beijing sentiment is among the Chinese diaspora in Canada.

I’m not claiming to speak for all Chinese Canadians, I’m simply pointing out how many of them may view this issue… and that had Carney pushed strongly for Mr. Chiang’s removal, instead of just letting him resign, like has happened, it could have had a negative impact on LPC support among Chinese Canadians, more than it would have had a positive impact on non Chinese Canadians had he been swiftly removed.

If we have a vast pro-Beijing sentiment in Canadian citizens then we have a problem.

I don't understand why so many people, especially Conservatives, believe in "trickle down economics." It does not work, and it was proven not to be effective for decades.

This is a ridiculous misconception. The majority of University students are not going to school for arts degrees. Aside from that, who is so wrong with progressive ideas. For example, if one is taking criminology, is it not beneficial that students learn the root causes of crimes, and risk reduction to improve communities in order to prevent crime itself?

If so, I'm sure they took it into account. The main consideration, I suspect, was to let Chiang exit with a bit of dignity intact, taking into account his background of service. Losing the chance to become MP seems punishment enough - no need to burden him with additional scandal.

I agree, we need to give Communism another shot. The reason I say that is because true Communism has never been implemented or so I keep hearing.

Not sure how attractive a loft bed and ladder would be for that demographic.

The difference is that people here aren't advocating for Communism. Some still think trickle-down will work though. There's a lot of billionaire humping despite the obvious evidence we have that they don't care about anyone but themselves.

I agree, but a loft bed isn't etched in stone to a tiny home. I have a concept for a small extreme space saving cottage using a Murphy bed.

Believe it or not, I was talking about this with my nephew who was buying a house and he said he saw Murphy beds in new houses. I couldn't believe it.

This screams about the high cost of a university education, that is more and more not seen as an education but more of a leftist indoctrination unless one is in STEM.

All leftist criticism aside, even without that, the fact that a kid can't even have a full time summer job and fully fund their education is outrageous. The bloating of useless university bureaucracy along with the student loan scam leaving students with a pile of debt is loathsome.

Unlike Biden's plan, it is totally unfair to pay off these loans, someone has to go after the universities and it's unlikely they'll change until they are forced to.
I hesitated to even respond to this as I don't think it's worth the time, but can you elaborate on what makes universities 'leftist indoctrination' centres? I think it says something that the more educated one becomes, the less they see things in black and white, overly simplistic terms. One might even say they develop more empathy, or at least understanding of the root causes of problems. You sound like Hecate or Photolith.

It's pretty common that when people are put in situations where they interact with people from other cultures (like in university or in dense urban areas) they become more tolerant towards those other cultures. It's kind of telling that some people see tolerance and empathy towards others as being "leftist", which kind of implies that intolerance would then be "rightist" I guess.

Back when I was protesting tuition increases (like a good little leftist) at least it was affordable. You could get a loan that wouldn't kill you to pay back.
Yes it was easier to finance your own education, as I did a few decades ago.

In Ontario, tuition costs have been frozen for several years. The PC government ordered them frozen when they first came to power. Ontario provides less grant money per student than any other province does. As a result Ontario universities and colleges are running increasingly large deficits each year.

I do feel that university administrations have become bloated. Employees have pretty generous benefit and pension packages.

In summary, Ontario needs to provide more grant money, particularly if it continues to freeze tuition. Plus, it would help a bit if the universities cut down the size of bloated administrations.
