Genuinely curious when PP was smeared. I'd like to go back and see how unfair these attacks were.

I don't think he should stay two terms. He's getting a lot of benefit of doubt this time. Precisely because he's not a politician. That won't happen in 2029. He clearly has something of a centre-left ideology. He has some policies and programs in mind that he wants to put in. If he's smart, he'll go as quick as he can and call it quits in 2029, with a good rep and a reformed LPC. Just imagine if Trudeau had quit in 2019. Or even 2021.

Carney is also incredibly lucky. I genuinely think he'd be neck and neck with O'Toole right now. Or losing. Poilievre is uniquely unlikeable. I can't see the CPC making that mistake again if they lose.

Must have been some serious arm twisting going on.

It would have been better if Carney had pulled the plug personally. There are certain lines that must not be crossed, and Chiang literally did a ballet pirouette over that line with his comments regarding turning in his opponent to a foreign embassy. This was indefensible.

I guess someone was calculating the optics of the various scenarios.

For me, like with many, it would probably have been better for Carney to officially dismiss him (Preferably earlier than yesterday), as a show of control over the party, and a clear indicator of what is acceptable or not acceptable.

But I could also see how some might see booting an incumbent MP as being "disrespectful" to what he'd been doing previously, especially within the riding itself.

Chiang was certainly pressured into stepping down before Carney had to pull the trigger directly. Stepping down was probably seen as a bit more "respectful" than basically being fired, and probably as a way to salvage votes in the riding and in the greater community.

What they're doing and their motivations is plainly obvious to anyone and everyone; but I guess it is important (especially in Politics) to go through the motions, even if the reasons are painfully transparent.

Current CBC Poll Tracker:

LPC - 42.0%, 197 seats (majority government)
CPC - 37.5%, 123 seats
BLQ - 5.5%, 19 seats
NDP - 9.1%, 3 seats
GRN - 2.8%, 1 seat
PPC - 2.2%, 0 seats

LPC numbers continue to rise. The current change appears to be due to bleeding from the BLQ. Have Quebec voters made up their mind???

The French debate may be crucial in this election................

It would seem to be that the developments in Canada so far like 12 neighbours have been a success with getting access to housing for people who otherwise couldnt.

I dont see how a modular housing option couldnt be a step up from this type of thing. Rather than be an option for the homeless this would be a great option for people in their 20's starting out.

I dont get this argument about the trailer park. If modular housing is cheaper and more realistic for the government to build why shouldn't they? Should they instead build 2 storey 4 bedroom homes that would be far more expensive to heat and maintain? Maybe they should thrown in an in ground pool while we are at it as well

The housing announcement is the first "bold" announcement the LPC have announced and its the type of forward thinking that's needed. Will there be hiccups? Probably

Carney called himself a pragmatist. I don't really see how adopting policies he thinks are popular really falls out of line with his own characterization of himself. This is democracy at play.

I think Trudeau did some good things over his tenure and don't have a hate on him the same as some here, but he was far from pragmatic on most issues.

Perhaps Carney saw this "less embarrassing exit" as the best option in the long term. The Chinese vote in Toronto is very important, and what happens in Markham could very well have a ripple effect on other ridings across the country with lots of Chinese Canadians. Many were calling for Carney to quickly fire him, but that could have made this a bigger issue than it needed to be.

Carney didn't make Chiang lose nearly as much face as he could have, and he really didn't have to do that either. I think a lot of the Chinese Canadian electorate will have have taken note on how this situation was dealt with. To me, it shows Carney knows a thing or two about Chinese culture, and how he's dealt with this situation has probably helped him in other ridings with a lot of Chinese Canadians. If Carney had gone out of his way to fire Chiang and it became even more of a national new story, Mr. Chiang could have lost a lot more face, and Chinese Canadians themselves would have seen it as something that could make all Chinese Canadians lose face. Carney avoided this turning into a larger controversy by letting Mr. Chiang resign.

Anyone trying to make a big stink about this for Carney, now that it's been dealt with, is just grasping at straws...just like most of the other CPC attacks against Carney have been so far anyways. If Poilievre and CPC supporters continue to attack on this, it's not going to help them gain support of Chinese Canadian voters, who they absolutely need in BC.

Even if BC has more Hong Kongers and Taiwanese than found in Toronto, there's still more Mainland Chinese Canadians than HKers and Taiwanese in BC... and Hong Kong and Taiwanese Canadians already know that Carney is going to be anything but soft on China, based on what he's already said when asked about shifting the trade focus from the US to China. Carney wants to focus on Europe and reliable partners in Asia that share our trade values. However, if there was a chance to salvage the Canada-China relationship, I think its abundantly clear that Carney would be the far better option than Poilievre to negotiate with with the Chinese and work towards mending the relationship despite the fundamental differences that exist between Canada and China on trade, human rights, and other issues.

I don't think there will be too many Chinese Canadians, even those of HK and Taiwan extraction, who felt Carney wasn't tough enough on Mr. Chiang. Carney dealt with this issue fine. Had Carney swiftly fired Mr. Chiang, and made him lose more face as it became an even bigger national news story, that could have hurt the LPCs poll numbers with Chinese Canadians across the country. Carney dealt with the issue, but he didn't go out of his way to embarrass Mr. Chiang, which in my opinion, is the sign of a rational, balanced leader.

The only people who are going to pretend to continue to care about this issue past today are part of that 35+ percent, rock solid conservative base. For everyone else, the election moves on...

Both debates are important. 5% really isn't that much of a lead. The LPC is just better on voter efficiency.

Agree the baseline 2029 prediction is certainly towards a Con victory but who knows what happens. Regardless it's hard to give up the PM mantle after one term. Is there a modern politician who has done that anywhere in the western world?

But this election isn't totally over yet. We still have the debates.

Trying to respond to what voters want seems pretty pragmatic to me.

Sorry I mean that Guilbault is no long the minister of environment. I just hope that Carney tunes him out when he says once again, "Our highway network is adequate."

Hopefully the bank pays more. That will get him out if he gets the chance to achieve his goals.

I see Chiang has now stepped down as a Liberal candidate. The word "distraction" was used. Seems to me much as someone predicted.

With MP Chiang stepping down, we can get back to the justified attacks on Poilievre

PeePee gets smeared due its nature as a substance. As a liquid it can make a real mess and smell up whatever room it’s in. You don’t want PeePee in your living room. You don’t want PeePee in your kitchen or your bedroom. And you especially don’t want PeePee in the highest house of the land. PeePee belongs in one place: the toilet.

As for PP, all the smearing is his own. All he does is smear. His vile politics of shit slinging and bile only knows how to smear. There’s no vision or inspiration. Just a foul stench.
