Carney now proposing GST to be dropped from new home sales. I wonder where he got that idea?

When will he announced capital gains will be dropped off re-invested in Canada.

Plagiarism seems to be a thing for Carney.

I thought the Liberal proposal was to drop GST for first-time homebuyers (only) up to a certain price. It was one of the first things they announced, no?

Telling people that they can get conservative policy without the conservative leader (that a lot of people dislike) is not the hit you think it is.

Also, somebody having 10 poor citations in a 600 page thesis before AI verification? Nothing says partisan bullshit like hanging your hat on this. It's also exactly the kind of politics that is turning people off, and in this case from the Conservatives. Can you picture it? Some auto worker worried about his job in Windsor. "I was going to vote for the Liberals, but that Carney guy didn't use a proper APA citation after paraphrasing a sentence. He might not be able to defend my job."

At least the Chiang stuff was a genuine complaint....

Being stubbornly unwilling to change and adapt with reality seems to be a thing for PP. That’s why he’s losing.

I will be curious to see whether Carney will be beholden to Guibault and the likes if elected. Given that Carney removed Guibault from the cabinet, though, I am cautiously optimistic.

This is a viewpoint afforded by comfort. It's a privilege. If you were living in your parent's basement, I bet you would consider a trailer park.

Say what? Guilbeault is Minister of Canadian Culture and Identity.

He has a real opportunity here. He's not a career politician. He's not really beholden to any other politician. He can push some hard reset buttons. If he does win a majority? I hope he just pushes policies he wants and leaves. But that's always hard for leaders. See Trudeau.

He also does weird shit like talking about the biological clock of women during a housing announcement. That dislike is earned.

Just imagine how O'Toole would be doing right now.

I did a quick check and that still seems to be the case ("at or under $1 million for first-time buyers").

What are you talking about? Liberal policy taken straight from the CPC platform. I’m not complaining, really. I support a lot of the things he’s announced…. after the CPC announced it first. All good. I like his ambition of building 500,000 homes per year, Damm near impossible, but shoot for the moon for sure. Just comically ironic that his thesis had blatant plagiarism, all good! Lord knows this forum would light the F up if the news was about PP plagiarizing!

I have not read his thesis or plant to. However this is a matter that should have been pointed out by the thesis committee that was supervising his research project at the time. Given they accepted his thesis it obviously was not an issue.

I am not interested in hearing obvious smears about either candidate. The Cons are getting desperate.

I think it’s backwards… Seems the Liberals were desperate… to the point of adopting most of the Con policies?.. it’s working!

Carney moved to the centre because that’s what the electorate wanted.

Meanwhile, PP is stuck in the Trumpian far-right hole he dug for himself… and it’s not working.

Surely you mentioned that on the first page of the thread?

The following 224 pages on this thread is a cesspool of PP smearing.

I don’t recall you ever making that statement when PP had unjustifiably been smeared.. have you?

I would have thought it equally bullshit if somebody brought up 10 lines from a 600 page thesis that Poilievre wrote 30 years ago.

And I actually looked at some of these lines. Calling them plagiarism is a stretch when the references are all cited and the only way to catch them (they aren't direct quotes) would be to run the whole thing through an AI program scanning for paraphrasedc lines. You will literally not find a single person without plagiarism concerns pre-2015, if this is the bar. This is another dumb manifestation of cancel culture. And anybody with half a brain sees that and knows why this argument isn't sticking.

It's beyond stupid. Every person who has a master's degree or higher and reads the actual lines they are talking about will call it BS. Bad citation. Absolutely. Big P plagiarism like they are accusing him of? Definitely not. I am fairly sure that anything written by any person in this forum would find plagiarism if the same standard was applied.

Also, the guy wrote a thesis of several hundred pages. Nobody has read that. Least of all a bunch of partisan journalists and hacks. They ran it through AI software, printed out the handful of hits they got and ran to the press. I'm not even sure they actually understand the lines they claimed he plagiarized.

Telling, that this is all they have on the guy.
