As apposed to Blaine Higgs in NB who gave a promise to learn French, and apparently tried to do his best, but gave up after a year of futility. Blaine had no previous experience, and was trying to learn the language in his 60s, which is always difficult.
Carney has had little need for French over the last decade and is rusty, but, I think it will rapidly improve.

All I ask of us, no matter our political affiliations, is to hold our party leaders to the same standards as the others. I feel like people would be up in arms if Poilievre were skipping a debate during the most crucial election of our lifetimes.
I may not agree with TVA charging parties to appear on their network, but the parties, at least the major ones, are more than capable of absorbing those costs; what else were all the years of fundraising for if not this?
I'll say this to Mr. Carney, if you wish to continue as Prime Minister, there are a heck of a lot harder challenges ahead than debating your opponents in French. The debate will be a cakewalk compared to what looms south of the border.
