"Canada Proud," the right wing advocacy group who work with the CPC are appearantly going to run a month-long smear campaign against Mark Carney, trying to link him to the Epstein Island sex scandal. It was just a couple of days ago that the founder of True North/Juno News launched an attack on one of Carney's daughters. This is yet another reason not to vote Conservative.

At a time when Canada is faced with it's greatest existential threat in over 200 years, the Poilievre camp continues to engage in Trump-style division politics.

As long as they are willing to pay, it would probably be good for appearances to allow one or two of them on the plane/buses. But try to give preferences to the mainstream guys in general.

Talking to those outlets will only legitimize them--at the moment they're only relevant to hardcore partisans who are highly unlikely to change their vote; talking to them would raise their profile and ultimately make them more influential. MSM outlets may skew left (the Toronto Star) or right (the Sun papers) but they all fall within a spectrum of reasonableness. The True North/Rebel types are essentially just propaganda mills without any journalistic credibility.

Canada joining the EU would be infinitely better than joining the US under Trump as a single state. I don't think Trump understands Canadian provinces have far more power and autonomy than US States do.
Because it's not a serious offer, at least not yet. Trump hasn't said anything other than "it would be great if Canada became part of the US".

If it was a serious offer it would need a heavily complex list of terms, including concessions from the US, to enable it. At a minimum it would likely require provinces to become individual states, an ability to retain socialized healthcare, address the transition of government, concessions of some kind for Quebec... the list goes on. Then you would have the US requesting meetings with Canada to discuss terms.. etc.

Its not though, and nobody but Trump is even thinking about it. It's not clear what Trumps endgame on it is..

That may change at some point. As we saw with Tariffs, it all started with Trump making ramblings about Tariffs and his team had to come up with an actual strategy and approach which we are now learning of. If Trump wants to actually pursue the Canada thing as an actual policy direction, his staff will come up with an actual list of terms and offers.

God hopes he doesn't pursue it, and if he does, his team gets him to water it down to increased economic integration.. but even then, that would probably have been a discussion that Canadians would have entertained 6 months ago but won't want to touch now because of the sovereignty threats..

That would be hugely risky in a social media driven world. Although they do have options other than those you note.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is the official emergency backup goalie for the Edmonton Oilers tonight.

I think it’s safe to assume he’s going to be running for a seat in Edmonton, haha

If we're already making excuses for his ineffectiveness, then perhaps he's not the best person to lead us.

Anyways, reading Carney's website it seems like its been word for word lifted from Pierre Poilievre sans the climate change section - cut the bureaucracy, reduce red tape, national standards, "supercharge housing", defending arctic sovereignty, etc.

My math was wrong as election day does (I believe) count as one of the days of the campaign, so a Sunday writing of the writs would still allow for an April 28th e-day.

Which is why they will ultimately lose. More people are turned off by this style of campaigning than turned on.

It reeks of desperation. Is that all they got? They can't attack him on legitimate issues, so they have to run with a "guilty by way of six degrees of separation" approach.

Maybe it will convince Hecate, but then he is already convinced.

I personally can't stand those red-hued "Carbon Tax Carney", etc. ads. No information about what conservatives offer or would do better.

The only non-attack Conservative ad I have seen is where Pierre is trying to impersonate Winston Churchill, but doing an unconvincing job of it. "Tough by teleprompter".

Meanwhile, new CPC attack ad is now about axing sales tax on housing.
The pivot may be a bit late, but at least PP has finally moved on from carbon tax.

Precisely.

I'm beginning to wonder if I could do a better job at running a campaign for the CPC than Jenni Byrne. She is 0-3. Would it be that hard to attack Carney for something valid?

If I ran things, I would be going after Carney for his lack of political experience, and the fact that he lived and worked outside Canada for a substantial part of his adult life. Or even state that Carney is this International banker, who cannot relate to the problem of everyday Canadians, who cannot afford a place to live.

I don't know how well that would do, but it beats what the CPC is doing.

There is almost a zero chance that I would vote for the CPC led by even a fluently bilingual Doug Ford, so if it's just for little old me, he may as well not bother!

The CPC ads I see now are tying Carney directly to the housing crisis in Canada, and saying he has been Trudeau's economic advisor for 6 years. Like they are trying to paint him as Finance Minister/Deputy PM for that time. Did they just replace Freeland with Carney in their ad scripts?!

They are of course ignoring the 3-ton orange elephant in the room, which is obviously the top issue for most voters.
