Since it is normal for the media to pay their own way and contribute to the travel cost it is weird.

I am certain avoiding hard "independent" questions is not the reason. It is an interesting experiment. On one hand you end up controlling the message and on the other you probably end up less face time.

Sounds like the Liberals are having the media travel with them.
The Conservatives are flush with cash. Money isn't the issue here whatsoever. This has Jenni Bryne written all over it.

Carney is from NWT/AB, though he has spent most of his adult life abroad, and more recently, in Ontario.

Carney will be different. Not as mean spirited as PP would be. I trust him to blend incremental middle of the road progressive policies along with a positive business agenda.

Good old Canadian centrism....................
Except you have to ask yourself what did Carney promise Guilbault to get him to stay and the Vampire of Canadian politics, Gerry Butts, was at Rideau hall for Carneys investiture. Haven't Butts and Telford done enough to the Ontario and National Fiscal situation? My deep concern with Carney is that he is selling himself as the Adult in the Liberal Party and is an accomplished and maybe too calm technocrat to counter balance the Toddler at 1600.

Fine and dandy but I have the very solid gut feeling that Butts et Al will use Carny and the Trump crisis to really kill off Canadian industries that do not align with their deeply held Climate bias's. The community that these folks live in, think in and hope for does not include using Canada's deep resource base to enhance Canadian's opportunitys but is the crisis of opportunity to enact Climate mitigation dreams. Canadians be damned. Carny, Mark my words, will eventually retire to England.Hmmmm.

its the provinces that in the end kill industry. look at the smelter in thompson was set to have 6billion investment interprovincial politics shut it down now we have a mine on verge of shutting down 14yrs later and when it did close we lost the worlds purest nickel was fully eltric facility and was poised to become the worlds cleanest witch woulda made a huge impact on emissions in the world shame

look at the pipeline fight with quebec

its the provinces that kill industry
mb in the 70's changed the laws around mineral management and industry packed up and left in droves for onterio and vancover

Why England? He went there for the bank of england job and returned to work at Brookfield in Toronto immediately afterwards. It's pretty clear to me he was there for the job and the job only.

He spent a huge chunk of his adult life at Goldman Sachs all over the place as well. He has an illustrious finance career which at that level often requires you to move internationally. Whenever his career has taken a step back, he has always returned domestically.

I do share concerns about Guilbault, but he's off the environmental ministry and into the economically unimpactful ministry of culture and identity. Post-election Carney will have a fresh slate of MPs to set a cabinet with, who knows if he even stays on cabinet.

I am hopeful for Carney overall but I want to see his platform. He is signaling a far higher priority on economic measures, but we need more details to see how his government would differ from the Trudeau government on that front which has been a complete and abject failure.

Warsaw has become a shining star of not just Central/Eastern Europe but Europe overall. Now that Donald Tusk is Poland's PM they've earned respect back that the PiS party leadership had eroded with Europe.

Canada would be smart to hitch our wagon to that entity in some way if not full EU status.

USA has become a bully and shown their hand under the Trump/MAGA administration.

As Fox News "personality" Laura Ingraham said to Trump in their interview the other day:
"You're tougher with Canada than you are with some of our biggest adversaries"

edit: His only valid point is Canada needs to uphold NATO spending obligations. Most Canadians don't want US dairy with rBST hormones.
ffs, can a single journalist ever ask him why he wants to admit Canada as one single state, instead of 10 states? I've always found this to be the most bonkers part of this nonsense, and I'm surprised he hasn't clarified yet that Canada would be admitted as many states instead of one, giant state.

Canada joining the EU would be infinitely better than joining the US under Trump as a single state. I don't think Trump understands Canadian provinces have far more power and autonomy than US States do.

Carneys Wife is English and the Better halves usually have more than Half of the say in where the Golden years get spent. Then again if Grandchildren show up that determines a lot too.

I still have a wait and see for Mr Carneys ambitions. Election campaigns matter and the coming one more than most.

Because he is not serious. He wants better US terms on trade and access to Canada and for us to spend more on defence. This is how he operates. Its offensive, but this is who he is.

"Well if you're not going to be the 51st state, then you should at least be doing so and so since we have unfair trade and we pay for your defence, etc, etc."

It's called American exceptionalism.

My favorite was "the US electing Trump will be great for Canada" from the hardcore right wing supporters. Yes it will be...

Media pays their own way on these planes anyway so that issues doesn't even make sense. I think they are paying the LPC $30k/each or something.

Carney will get tons of airtime.

Because he lives off the soundbite. If it can't be said in 5 words or less, he won't say it. "Fifty-first state" is a quick and easy jab that he can put in whenever he wants to cause a stir.

If he's forced to expand or explain it, he falls into mumblygook at best and probably would just change the subject to avoid the question.

Plus I'm pretty sure he can't really hold longer/more complex thoughts in his head anyway. Hence why he flip flops so much; he only remembers what the last person he was talking to told him.

I'm sure when the CPC made the announcement about the media, the LPC briefly considered letting the media travel for free. It would be a fairly easy win; but it would probably give the CPC a bit of ammo, claiming the LPC is buying the media. Better for the LPC to keep doing what has been standard for years and bask in the more timely airtime they'll be getting because the media is on hand.

why is it off the table - minimum 36 day election period - March 23 to April 28 fits.

Election calls on a Sunday for a Monday vote is very standard.

I'm pretty sure a large proportion of the Maple MAGA alt-right supporters secretly want to join the USA anyway.

Traitors.................
