We have to laugh at how clueless Trump is. He has said more than once this week that JT is playing tough with counter-tariffs because he wants to be re-elected. He said it three days before the LPC leadership vote!

I'm curious to see if Trump will think that JT lost in an election when (assuming) Mark Carney becomes PM!!

Will be interesting on Monday when the PM and president have their call to discuss the new tariffs Trump invests on the weekend. My prediction....

Carney: Hi Donald, its Prime Minister Carney from Canada.

Trump: What happened to Justin?

Carney: He resigned several weeks ago. The leadership vote was on the weekend. I am the new PM.

Trump: Governor Carney, you beat him? I never liked him, he said bad things about me.

Carney: Oh, Donald, that is my old title. Great that remember me from when I was the Governor of the Bank of Canada and Governor of the Bank of England. But that is a long time ago, it is PM now. Last few years I have been focused on wall street with some of the worlds largest clean energy projects. Helped out with the UN as a special envoy on Climate Change. Don't worry, I heading down to wall street tomorrow to talk to all my old friends at the investment banks about how to handle your tariffs.

Trump: "F%%k, sh%%" followed by sound of something hitting the wall and aids scrambling for cover.

Carney: Donald are you there? Donald, did not quite get what you said?

Vance: We will need to get back to you. That was just the Presidents can of coke hitting the wall, there is coke all over the ovall office rug.

Carney: No problem, we are friendly, dependable Canadians, just give us a call when you want to chat. Oh, I know how much the President likes his coke, I am sending a care package with bottles of coke. The Mexican stuff, made from South American sugar cane, none of this American corn-syrup stuff. Also including some maple cream filled cookies.

I am not looking to debate this. I just feel it is absurd and unbecoming.

The counter-argument is not that it isn't, but that it's clever, witty or "great" to be absurd and unbecoming in this way.

I love how they have Trudeau at being more likely than Singh.

Exactly this. Justin needs to be given a role to let his perfomative acting shine..public political theatre 100% of the time.

Slight nitpick with the EKOS poll (well it might be more than slight).

They asked for voter intention two different ways: without naming party leaders, and with naming party leaders (using Carney as the LPC leader).

With leaders named: LPC +7.1 points ahead

Without leaders named: LPC +3.1 points ahead.

Both on their own are fine, but then the results are blended together to give the national topline which they reported. Really shouldn't have done that as you're combining two different datasets.

EKOS consistently has low CPC numbers (see final polls released prior to the 2019 and 2021 elections), so I do take their accuracy as a grain of salt.

What I'll be curious to see once Carney becomes leader: will polls drift towards the results we saw when prompting Carney as LPC leader, or will the polls drift towards the results we see when prompting just the party which you'd vote for; only one of them can be correct.

While I think you are largely right, it's arguable that Justin Trudeau also personally contributed a small part to putting himself and indeed Canada in this mess. He's always been antagonistic and condescending towards Trump and his supporters, and of course shilling for Biden and Harris, for years.

And of course for Trump everything is always obsessively personal. So while our PM might be going through a very modest image renaissance right now, it's also not surprising that because of all this, Trump has decided to make this guy (who happens to be our PM) that he really can't stand, the poster child to the world for "don't 🞵🞵🞵🞵 with me or I'll do this to you too".

JT made a very nice speech. That’s what he does. All he does.

One very well rehearsed speech with his over dramatic chops and many Canadians forget that he had to quit or forced out just weeks ago because he was so terrible. It’s actually amusing…

Plus… the owner of Ekos has a personal vendetta against Pierre Poilievre.

Quotes from a couple past tweets of his:

March 15, 2022
“A real conservative option is a healthy counterbalance in a healthy democracy. Pierre Poilevre is an acolyte of authoritarian populism. This is never healthy. You are on notice. Going to make sure you are never going to lead my country. I don't make idle threats”

What's actually amusing is the number of CPC leaders Justin has thrown to the dustpile of history and that Pierre had a commanding lead in the polls and is stumbling to do anything that resembles PM material since being forced off his programmed script. He wants us to think he hates Trump - but we know that Jones, Musk, Peterson and Trump all want Pierre.

If Carney is selected as Liberal leader, wonder if Trudeau will revamp his speech about it being a setback for women that Harris was not elected; something along the lines it is a setback for the Liberal party once again to select a white male as leader vs. two women.

One can say the same thing about Paul Martin, Stephane Dion, Bob Rae and Michael Ignatieff thrown to the dustbin of history by Stephen Harper.

Exactly. There seems to be no self awareness on the part of JT that the LPC has never had a female leader. Even with Trump's dementia kicking in, I don't think his advisers will miss highlighting this point to Trump.

Attacking Trump has been the raison d'etre of the Liberal Party ever since Trump started campaigning for WH 2.0 ..I guess that's why JT held out as long as he could, betting that the tides would turn in his favour. He's probably royally pissed-off that a strong-minded and irritating feminist put a kibosh to his plans.

I said it at the beginning that Trump is the best thing that ever happened to the Liberals. They are absolutely ecstatic for now because its a perfect distraction from their absolute destructive record from the last 10 years.

Can this distraction last through an election? I think the CPC will start hammering in what the ten years and future would look like under same regime, just different face.

I don’t think Trump won solely on MAGA. Americans were more fed up with the extreme direction the country was going. Canada is continuing down same path.

Return to centre, that’s all most Canadians want.

They get that with Carney a lot more than the PP led CPC, which took O'Toole's version and added in the PPC fringe.

Nope. Carney just different face on same regime. Exact same people involved. Just a slight rebranding job.
