Carbon Tax Carney is almost comical at this point with how over the top the narration is.

It’s one thing when people on an anonymous Internet forum have a penchant for nicknames… it’s something else, objectively worse when it’s the leader of one of Canada’s main two political parties.

Poilievre isn’t even trying to tone down his Trump style nicknaming of his political adversaries. I think he’s going to regret this.

For the record I don't like that either.

Chrystia Freeland was on the Bill Maher show a few nights ago and called Poilievre “maple syrup MAGA”

“The federal Liberal party leadership candidate called Poilievre “maple syrup MAGA,” using an acronym for the “Make America Great Again” slogan popular with Trump and his supporters.”
https://www.ctvnews.ca/politics/article/...re-trudeau-on-real-time-with-bill-maher/

Liberals have always tagged Poilievre as MAGA… and the Liberals are ramping that up, see Freeland’s remarks.

Liberals are just as guilty of the Trump style nicknaming.

Not a fan of Freeland, and wasn’t that impressed with the interview, especially Bill’s lack or preparation.

Haven’t heard Carney try and make something as lame as “Maple Maga” stick.

My favourite was Pierre using mgtow hashtags in his videos - did he ever own up to that and apologize?

It's cringey, and Freeland isn't great in live interviews like that. Somebody else might have made it stick, but not her.

This and only this. Trump offers no respect to our country, to our Prime Minister, or for that matter, to anyone else that isn't a bootlicking subservient. He is the King of insults. If you are going to dish it out, you better be prepared to take it.

I think people are getting offended by the wrong things here. The way that Drumpf and JD Pants interacted with Zelenskyy in the White House Press Conference last week....that is a prime example of what should be offending people.

Plenty of reputable media outlets with questions on Carney:

Mark Carney’s hairsplitting act must end
The Editorial Board
Published 7 hours ago
For Subscribers

For someone who likes to profess his status as a non-politician, Liberal leadership contender Mark Carney sure is a fast learner in the art of prevarication and hair splitting.

The most prominent example is Mr. Carney’s murkiness on the question of whether he was still the chair of Brookfield Asset Management Ltd. when the company moved its headquarters to New York. After the Feb. 25 Liberal leadership debate, Mr. Carney told reporters that “the formal decision of the board happened after I ceased to be on the board.”

That is true, but it is not the whole truth. The Brookfield board voted unanimously in favour of the move while Mr. Carney was chair; he issued a letter to shareholders backing that proposal, as would be expected.

Mr. Carney could have simply said that he was fulfilling his fiduciary duties, that the change was largely a matter of paperwork and that Brookfield retains a vigorous Canadian presence. Instead, he tried to leave the (misleading) impression that he did not play a role in the decision.

His attempt at the end of the week at cleaning up his rhetorical muddle was scarcely better.....

....More broadly, every party leader must understand that Canada is entering a years-long period of uncertainty. The next prime minister will have to call on the trust of Canadians to lead the country where it needs to head but may not want to go.

Mr. Carney, should he become prime minister, will need to earn that trust. He will not do so through overly clever follicle cleaving.

While that isn't great, one significant difference is that she appears to have said that jokingly in response to Maher asking her how to pronounce "Poilievre". When Freeland refers to Poilievre in statements, she uses his name as compared to Poilievre's nicknames for his opponents.

No-one's denying that, but the discussion was about naming. The article you linked to refers to Mr Carney as Mr Carney, not some silly nickname.

As far as I know his name has been legally changed and is whatever he wants it to be. People have no right to tell others what their name is
. I really need to say this?

My biggest laugh when I watched Bill Maher Friday was when he referred to her as the next Prime Minister, as if it was a done deal, not candidate, or former Deputy PM. Disappointed he didn't take a stab at actually trying to pronounce Pierre's last name. Would be interesting to see if he hit it better than Canadian Conservative Kevin O'Leary on CNN right after Christmas when he said Pierre "Po-Liv-ee-yay". I wonder if Mr Wonderful will be trying to lobby himself into leading "Canadian DOGE" if Pierre wins the election?

My only question is whether this is even worthy of discussion. We can all just agree to disagree and leave it at that.

Definitely the most accurate poll I’ve seen. According to that poll LPC will sweep Manitoba entirely, sweep Edmonton, pick up half the Calgary seats, sweep the entirety of the GTA except one riding.

They project the Liberals to win a majority with 202 seats, 51 more seats than they currently have.

Polls are all over the place right now, ranging from a 7 point LPC lead to a 13 point CPC lead. I wouldnt pay much attention to them at the moment. Things are changing so fast.

Lets wait until the LPC gets an actual leader and we have an election called. Then I will be interested in polling. Given Trumps history, god only knows what will be going on at the time. His drama will have a big impact on our election. It could go any direction.

I can see anything from a CPC majority to a LPC majority. A lot hinges on how Carney and Poilievre are judged during a campaign. Anything could happen!

Well, obviously the electorate likes what they are seeing and wants to see more Liberals in office. We need to accept some support may be soft and work is need to secure it.

It would be fantastic for national unity to see Western Canada unite behind the Liberals, we need to accept that is going to be challenging. It is a start.

I doubt the polls would have swung that much with Trudeau at the helm.

I honestly think they would. Don't get me wrong - I think JT is the worst prime minister in living memory, but he's at his best when pitted against against a guy like Trump. He hits all the right notes in a performative battle like this, which is probably why Trump hates him so much.
