So where's the business case that was due in the Fall of 2024?

I just hope this gets approved before Trump stabs the Canadian economy to death.

Would want my full-length Millenium Line before this country becomes an Argentina

Surely a few more studies are needed aren't they? This is a greater Vancouver transit project after all.

I think first they should study and consider different technologies! Maybe LRT?

From the Burrard Peninsula Transit Plan that was released today, it seems we now have the routing that Translink expects the UBCx to be. Not a lot of surprises there.

Whoever screenshotted their google maps for that image has some good taste.

Jo's Deli, Kuma are both solid and La Quercia is the best pasta in the City.

TransLink had put forward their preferred routing a while ago, which aligned with the CoV's desires.

However, it's in the Province's hands now, and they're in the process of doing their own business case, which will determine whether they agree with that routing alignment, station locations, etc. You can imagine how much this has thrilled the other parties involved in this who thought it was a settled issue.

Realistically are we expecting the province to change the routing? I can't see them not including the Jericho lands. Maybe add the second station at UBC?

If I recall correctly, the CoV had only proposed the routing up until Sasamat with the alignment from Sasamat to UBC still up in the air.

If Translink is planning bus routes, I'm guessing they expect the University Boulevard route to be a sure thing now.

Could re-route the Jericho section along 8th so that it can be built cut and cover.

I'm guessing any Wesbrook station will have to wait for the 41st Line (whenever that comes). Would be nice if they could make room for a future one at Lelem too.

W 8th is far too narrow for cut and cover.

They still have to make a decision regarding a future station at the University Golf Club which would mean routing under the golf course north of University Blvd rather than elevated along University Blvd if the future station is not included.

There is plenty of room through the Jericho section. Then you only have 3 or 4 blocks left to manage, it is doable.

Even more than the road width look at the topographical layout of the site. There's a pretty significant slope on the entire site so Jericho Lands development will want it placed closer to the center of the site. From Alma to the other side of the Jericho site is 66m or so of elevation change.

There might be some consideration of the benefits for a more gradual incline for Skytrain on that section (with tunneled) versus cut and cover which you assume would limit your ability to gentle that transition (unless you are building giant trenches).

Canada line was built cut and cover from broadway to 25th using a stacked tunnel. The cambie street ROW is wider (80-100 ft vs 66 ft) but they managed to maintain 2 lanes of traffic during construction. Remove the requirement for two lanes of traffic and you could build the same stacked tunnel within the 8th avenue right of way for the 3 block stretch from Trimble to Blanca. The city of vancouver would never go for this (because: NIMBY outrage) but the province might if there are significant cost savings.

You would need to adjust your cost savings since there would already be 1 or 2 TBMs for the first section. And then how do you get from 8th to University Blvd when you get to Blanca?

Cut and cover through the golf course.

Yeah, the slope is potentially the bigger road block for a cut and cover through here. The slope on 8th is pretty steady, which helps, but you need to get a flat station in somewhere and that would be easier with a bored tunnel. Still likely feasible to do a cut and cover, but the slope is definitely a consideration.

Adding the "UBC-Wesbrook" station now would make an eventual "Vancouver Loop" easier to construct and could also bring more UBC dollars to the table for the project. You could probably cut and cover all of it from the UBC bus loop down Main/East mall, it's not like UBC isn't used to a campus torn up by construction
