I think the distinctive feature here is not the blocks of midrise (which, yes, are common in Europe) but the mixture of towers, midrises and a well-planned walkable green waterfront/seawall. Towers are not common at all in European cities, but Vancouver does this kind of mized development a lot and very, very successfully.

There is no need to feel threatened by little brother showing example for once.
