Earlier this year I flew back home to L.A. after being gone for almost 4 years. I noticed a lot of differences around the city but mainly downtown. Surprisingly, DTLA felt like a vibrant community now and there were more things to do and places to see. It's a positive change and I hope the city continues to evolve for decades to come. However I'm one of those people that loves L.A for all of its numerous flaws and grittiness. It's that grittiness that makes the city uniquely special to me and I hope L.A never gets rid of that. I tried to capture some of the grittiness that remained in these shots.
The images below were taken with a point & shoot Canon Sd880 and my iPhone 3gs. Most of these pics are pretty noisy and as you can tell I'm not a pro. Next time though I'll bring my SLR.
Awesome set! Brave too if you were walking around south of Los Angeles Street in the middle of the night.
Yeah it was around 2am or so. I made it to Wall Street but then these junkies started talking shit so I decided it might've been best to head on back to Spring/Broadway...plus I was alone.

Homeless people keep their stuff in them. At night they wrap themselves in blankets if they can't get cardboard. The tents you see are the fortunate ones that actually have a place to sleep at night. Sadly, its been this way for several decades now...
