There is significant development pressure in the area North of Highway 19. YEG needs to confirm the layout of the third runway and Alberta Transportation needs to confirm the highway 19 realignment, potentially around the 3rd runway. This is all very critical to the industrial growth of that area and it's good to see things are coming together.

Actually if you look at the wind directions the taxi times would be reduced. They could alternate between runways. One for take off, one for landing, therefore reducing taxi times.

For example, if the Wind is coming from the NE the 3rd runway could be used from departures, as the taxi time to that runway would be short for departures. Arriving traffic would utilized 12-30 as they would land and be close to the south terminal.

In the above configuration with aircraft taking off toward Leduc runway 3 will be used for landings and runway 1 for take-offs. Reverse the wind direction and runway 1 becomes primary landing and runway 3 primary for take offs. Under this configuration taxi times actually decrease for Apron 1 aircraft.

The same will happen (reduce taxi times and distances) at YYC once the new runway is operational.

I'm no airport guy by any stretch, so someone feel free to educate me. Why would they want the new runway perpendicular to the existing one, as apposed to running the new one parallel with either of the two existing ones?

To reduce crossing interactions. If they went for the original plan, they wouldn't have to buy more land either.

Lol, I like how they actually bothered to put an airport boundary line around the NavCan building. And yes, taxi times could potentially come down in the majority of cases. They're not bad right now but the lack of parallel taxiways is a thorn in tower's side, for sure.

Well, I'll venture a guess as to who will eventually replace Mr. Ruth. It's whoever heads YHZ airport at the time of Ruth's departure...or so that seems to be the trend. Well, hopefully he brings good stuff to the table. I think it was time for change. Reg Milley may have been getting tired after doing battle (successfully) for so many years.

You're talking about YYC who helped in increasing and solidifying passenger and cargo flights to the airport AND THEN looked at expanding to a long 2nd runway that IS actually required? Just look at YYC now, what a disaster of an airport. They are so behind the times. But yes, YEG has so many more crosswinds, so much volume of traffic and so many incidents that would cause the closure of traffic based on one runway closed. I'm trying to up cyeg66's sarcasm lol.

I remember flying YEG-IAH when UA flew an early afternoon flight out of YEG. While taxiing to the runway, the captain got on the PA and said "We are number one for departure on runway 12". I almost burst out laughing thinking we would be number one for departure for the next hour. Of course, flying out of IAH i assume the captain has run into saying "we are number 12 for departure". The moral of the story is that no aircraft will be waiting very long to depart YEG even if the 3rd runway isn't built for 100 years.

I see Halifax has AC LHR service, TS LGW service, Cubana Havana, Santa Clara and Holguin service, Condor FRA service and FI KEF service. Now THAT is what i call impressive connections for a City with a population just under 400,000 people. If Tom takes requests, mine would be Condor service to FRA.
