I was looking at the http://www.infinitehorizons.ca/ website and was surprised that I couldn't find anywhere on there that actually showed me WHERE Regina is?

It links to the Tourism Regina website but even that is semi buried as a link at the bottom of the page...

For a website that is used to sell people who don't live here on the merits of Regina, it should make it abundantly obvious where Regina is. Other than that I like the website.

Also the promotional video has mysteriously disappeared for now... controversy?

Regina for a long time was a city that did nothing, and got nothing. It's unfortunate that there are so many "smart people" who are okay with that.

It's about time Regina started being a leader and doing more than just the bare minimum. Hence why the GTH and the stadium are such refreshing projects.
I disagree. It's the same myth that you have to spend money to make money.

Sure, sometimes. Maybe spending $400,000 on new lighting will save $200,000 per year in electricity. That is easy to grasp.

But sometimes spending is just blowing money on frivolities and ego enhancement.

Considering the specious "logic" that 10 new residents = $40,000 per resident in clear profit to the city, it certainly opens up big questions about the financial sense of this expenditure.

Let me ask... if he had spent $4 million on the new logo, would people be thinking it's even 10 times smarter? How about $40 million, is that 100 times smarter?

Sorry but spending money for the sake of spending money isn't a compelling business case. In fact if I'm an employer looking at relocating to Regina, I probably see evidence of wasteful spending as a red flag that I as a business owner am going to be over taxed to fund more vanity projects.

Wow your position on this really surprises me Quimby. *sarcasm off*

There are Titanic sized holes in every sentence you wrote but I won't waste my time.

My guess is you are comfortable with the way our economy and population was stagnant for most of the 20th century. Guess what? Times are a changing!
I like this city as much as the next guy around here, it is my home and I like it. But I could really care less what others think. In ten years is anyone from outside this city really going to think of Regina and say ... wow!! There are still going to be people who base there opinion on ignorant thoughts and stereotypes. Instead of pumping our chests and telling everyone to look at us, I think there are better ways to build this city's self image.

Thankfully the mods are moving more quickly on it now.

I wonder what the next username will be.

I don't understand why he was banned... because he had a different opinion? Am I missing something?

This is his 4th username he has signed up with to try and get around the ban of his original account.

He's banned this time for creating a new username to avoid the ban. If you want the history, you'll have to dig it up.

He's the ultimate troll.

Ahh, makes sense. No I'm familiar with the original ban. I guess I just thought him making a new account was a 'fresh start'.

I think it's better to have an outsider... because you still do need to have debate... Someone from Regina, especially if they are super "rah rah Regina" might not be so good of a choice.

he sure is the ultimate devils advocate for everything that go's on in regina and I really don't see a problem with that at all. Sometimes his negative posts i really do agree with. But yes, I know, his track record isn't the best on this site, and not only in the regina forum.

ON the other hand., the new wal-mart in my opinion is absolutely incredible! In the sense that it is the largest big box store i have been in in canada.

I was also talking to a lady who works there and said the north wal-mart expansions are almost complete and that within the next year they will be expanding the east wal-mart into a supercentre as well. I just don't see the need to have 3 supercentres in regina. We are a growing city though!

I hate Walmart and generally avoid it like the plague.

Is there even room to expand the east one? That's a pretty tight site, unless things are majorly re-oriented. The store would have to expand to the north, no? I'm kind of thinking that they might until land is available east of the cemetery for development (after it's been annexed, obviously), and build a brand new store, which would be 5 years at least, as mentioned above.

I'm still wondering if the remaining property on the Superstore site will ever be filled in (developed), and what the possibilities of the developments could be.

What ever happened to the hotel rumour? Anyone know what the word is on that idea?

The east WalMart has was always set up to permit expansion. I believe it is to the west where the current loading area is.

Expect development of the Superstore east lands to begin this spring. It is likely to be mixed retail/commercial. Superstore has all kinds of restrictive covenants over the lands (that is one reason it has never been developed). Therefore you won't see stores selling groceries, a pharmacy, gas, etc.

I doubt it. Hotels are all on the North side of Victoria. Land is cheaper there and there is easier ingress/egress for travellers arriving on the Trans Canada.

I respect that but WalMart provides a great service to many families and anyone else who wants to save money. They also keep the other retailers honest by providing stiff competition.

For those who don't like WalMart, they don't have to shop there. Having said all of this, I am not sure the City should be providing shuttle buses from the Southland Mall.
