Regina Construction

I don't see any Regina threads, and perhaps I am the only Regina dweller. And thus, this thread will be short lived. But I thought I'd post whats been going on in Regina.

Regina Exhibition Park has become Ipsco Park. They are planning new devlopments to a lot of the facilities. They started last year by building a new indoor soccer building. Next on the list is upgrading the seating at the Brandt Center, home of the Regina Pats to 8000.

The above was supposed to built in Regina in 2000. Seating for 50,000, with a price tag of $200,000,000. Never was built unfortunatly.

The old Galleria building has been formed into the new Federal Government building seen here:

Looks bad in that picture. But it was sitting vacant for quite a while so its good to see it being used. It will house about 800 employees, so there are still a lot of deparments not in that building. It is expected 2000 people will visit this building daily in the ehart of downtown.

This rendering looks kind of ugly, but it actually looks decent in person. This is the old Bay building. It is now home to Harvard Developments. It houses three Regina radio stations as well as Saskatchewan Property Management and a new coffee shop.

A new Lab building at the University of Regina. It will be home to state of the art labs. Built mostly for Science Graduate students. Also will be the new home to all the Science departments.

New RCMP Museum at the RCMP grounds.

New STC (bus company) headquarters in downtwon Regina. Right across from the Casino. Prime spot.

This seniors complex just went up in downtown. Complete with parkade and patio/garden on top.

Name change to Taylor Field complete with new additions.

As well there are rumours of a new hotel going up downtown across from the Casino, as well as empty spaces being converted to condos downtown. A lot more resedential these days in downtown.

That's all for now.

What's this building?

Those twin office towers look great, it's just too bad one of them wasn't a bit taller and the other a bit shorter (so as to de-twin them).

That first one is Sask Power Head Office.

As for the twins, one is a couple meters shorter.

^I kind of like this building. It's pretty trippy.

I really want to visit Regina one day. I have a couple of friends born there but they seem to think I'm crazy for actually being interested in ever going there. One day though...

The rendering makes the glass look odd. They just started installing the yellow panelling the other day. It certainly is a different looking building, but nothing wrong with that.

Regina has experienced a lot of growth in the past few years. I think people are starting to look at it differently. I think people are starting to realize more and more what Regina has to offer. And I think the city is starting to invest in itself more. We have seen a lot of projects lately that have really rejuvinated the city. I.e. Grey Cup, Summer Games, Re-Digging Wascana Lake, huge growth to the univeristy, new life for downtown, etc. It's actually an exciting time for the city, to see all these projects going on. No more than 5 years ago, the city was at its worst but a new mayor has invested life back into Regina.

I should add that Regina's Warehouse Distrcit is experiencing conversions from warehouses to new are, trendy lofts. There are numerous projects which have already been completed, and many continue to take off. This area is relatively close to downtown. They just need to start greening areas.

Regina has an amazing collection of government buildings. For a city of its size it was an impressive downtown.

Grant Devine and Harvard Developments were very busy in the 80's. It was a boom period of development in Regina, which resulted in the following buildings housing government offices:

- The twin towers (both leased by government)
- The CIBC Building (mostly leased by the department of AG).. at least it was when it was built.
- The Raddison Hotel is a mixed use building, half of which are offices.
- The Crown Life building, which was used to house Crown Life, which was Grant Devine's trophy corporation he brought and brought to Regina from Toronto. I beleieve this company was sold off to another insurance company.
- Sask Oil on the corner of Broad and Victoria Ave.

My favorite building in Regina is the old Crown Life Building. I only wish it were 20 stories taller.

One thing I love about Regina is the fact that it looks bigger then it actually is. I mean, what city of 200,000 people has a core like that? It's built wonderfully!

GO REGINA!!

That's the SaskPower building on Victoria Avenue. It is a groovy piece of architecture. I'll see if I can dig up a few more photos of it to show some details. The columns at the base are really neat.

Also, a new Provincial Lab is going up in the research park at the U of R. The buildings price tag is about $27 million and construction is set to start fairly soon.

It's too bad that P3 made this look like their research building with that rotunda feature. I think it would have looked better without immitating one of their other projects Jamie did.

Yep. A little odd I know. It would have been the biggest in central Canada and north central United States. I wonder who was picking up the tab on that building. It would be nice to see Taylor Field replaced.

I never knew there was ever a proposal for a domed stadium for Regina. It is in kind of a shame it was never built. It kind of looks like that old One Manitoba Place proposal for a hybrid stadium/arena project.
