That's a good idea. I moved into a new neighbourhood and 2 months later they put up no parking signs on *both* sides of the street, meaning no on-street parking for a 2-block span. Really horrible when it was the street an apartment building was on.
And reading the article, of course Dream Developments and other developers wouldn't want to warn people about these issues before they move in...because then people wouldn't be so receptive to these sardine-can home neighbourhoods! I also like how the city said they don't think 8.7m-wide streets are appropriate when there are houses on both sides...but their bylaw allows it. Of course developers are going to cheap out and build to the minimum! If you don't like it, change the bylaws to force them!
This is part of the City's long term vision . They see self driving cars coming. They know in a few years it will not matter where you park. You will just click a button on you phone app and summon your car or a self driving Uber and it will show up in front of your house before you walk down your front steps. This is all true but of course the City is not thinking of this it doesn't help anyone who is living there today.
I'm surprised that it is considered 'secret' as I understood it was fairly common knowledge. I have known what the building contained for a long time...way back when it was far from any other residential or commercial development.

I've noticed for a couple of days the vacant lot on the northwest corner of Albert &15th Ave has been barricaded and there's what looks like a drill machine on the lot.
Does anyone happen to know what's up there? I believe it's an old gas station site, similar to the one on the northeast corner of Albert & 14th Ave.

I thought the only vacant lots (no buildings) on that corner were inthe NW (north of PetroCan) and in the SE (east of PetroCan)

Used to be a Texaco I believe. By drill, do you mean a core sample drill or big pile auger. The former would be for enviro testing. You would not normally have a fence for that though.

I've just been by on my bike, and mostly keeping my eye on traffic as I pass by, but I'd say it's about 10 metres high. It did occur to me that it could be for soil sampling. It was in different locations both days.

It's almost definitely soil sampling. They were hauling bags of sand over to the hole on Friday to backfill it.
Interesting that they would be doing this now though. Is it because they're forced to every so often or is it as a part of a sale to a developer who needs to know what kind of remediation the site needs.

Probably the latter. When they have ongoing monitoring obligations, they leave capped wells on the site for periodic ground water monitoring/sampling. It would really be great to see something happen on that site. This section of the Green Mile has seen a real resurgence with all the new pubs and restaurants and Capitol Point appearing to be well underway.

The building immediately to the north of the lot is being gutted/renovated. A couple tenants from 1118 Broad Street bought the building (The Mortgage Group; Realty One & Usonia, I believe) & are moving there. Maybe they bought that lot as parking?
