It is notable that the new bridges and the Winnipeg street bridge all allow for six lanes underneath. That is the next project on the Ring Road, along with improvements to the Ross Ave interchange.

I think it has been 10-15 years since we had a summer without Ring Road construction.

The part of the building on the north end is being heated, so they might be pouring the concrete floors.

I just noticed the "Now open" sign on the new building on Pinkie Road, which explains why there were no cars at the old Omagakii location when I took off from there. A few weeks ago the person who filled my propane tank at the Coop gas station said there is a Walmart going in at the old Omagakii site.

I thought population growth has slowed down so many apartments being built

I was thinking that the Broad Street bridge would be next, but looking at in on streetview the structure if far more substantial than the old Albert Street bridges, tightly spaced trusses. If it needs major work it might just be a deck replacement. Though the height is lower than the old Albert Street bridges.

One thing I want to get a video of this year is when the construction of the new bridge gets to this stage. https://maps.app.goo.gl/1mjmxCBetR175irc7 When I drove past there one time they had about 8 guys hanging from the side with climbing harnesses threading in rebar.

https://www.sasktoday.ca/provincial-news/province-launching-monthly-construction-updates-Province launching monthly construction updates for capital projects
New initiative to update public on major capital projects is launched outside construction of new Regina Long Term Care Home.
Carr said the 2026-27 provincial budget includes $100 million going to advance construction of the specialized long-term care home project. When completed, it will house 240 beds, which Carr said is part of the government's 2021 promise to add 600 long-term care beds in Regina.
The price of this long-term care home so far is $100 million
There’s a nice photo in the story headline

Those commuting near the site have surely seen the tower crane erected at the site – as crews continue to pour concrete for the facility’s foundation slab and vertical support columns.

According to the province, each floor of the facility will comprise of four resident neighbourhoods arranged around a central hub, providing a “vibrant space for dining, social interaction and connection,” the province said.

“Additionally, the facility will include individual resident rooms with bathrooms, indoor and outdoor multipurpose spaces, a therapy centre and Indigenous gathering and spiritual spaces; all to enhance residents’ quality of life and wellbeing,” the province said in its update.

The facility is being built by Calgary-based Graham Design Builders LP

EDIT: I looked into this further. The Province allocated $20 million in 2024, but that was not for the whole project. Site prep and foundation was a separate contract and was done before the full design was completed. I recall thinking that $20 million for 240 beds seemed really cheap. It turns out the full cost is $56 million or $244,000/bed. Seems expensive, but that is what things cost around here these days.
Cost is way higher - somewhere in the range of $200M. It's progressive design-build project, but at this stage they should have a pretty good idea of what the final cost will be. Would be nice for the government to share that with the people paying for it.

Well the other problem is that Regina is going to need ten more of these buildings ten years from now. There's going to be a crisis with elder care.

That empty Staples building in Regina’s east end?
It might not stay empty for long.
The city has received a zoning request to convert it into a car dealership (Olympic).
Which leads to the obvious question m
Does Regina need another car dealership?
Or would you rather see something else go in there?
Coffee shop? Grocery? Gym? Something totally different? What would you put there if it was up to you?

That building is in the old Costco parking lot. That old Costco is now the Olympic car dealership. It's not a new car dealership going in there.

Olympic looks to be into a bunch of different stuff, vehicles and power sports. Often dealerships split out brands into a separate building. They also own Auto Gallery which could be consolidated onto their main site over there.

...and once the new LTC facility is built they are shutting down Pioneer Village which means 93 beds lost.

The future of these places is going to be humanoid robots. I would bet that in 10-15 years 80% of the workers will be robots.

I'm not as bullish on the performance of humanoid robots in real-world applicatiions.

Their capabilities are increasing by orders of magnitude each year. Tesla has nearly solved the extremely complex human hand. I actually think elder care is one area where they will excel and where there is a shortage of people willing to do this type of work. The elderly will be able to stay in their own homes longer too.

There was a 3rd pile driller on site when I rode past there this morning. No delivery of rebar for the piles yet. Rumour has it Walmart is going in across the street on reserve land. Omagakii vacated their old building there last week.
