I don't know how old you are, but that club and rooster symbol are alot more than just a hang out. I started going to that club in 1988 with my gay friends, and during that time, being gay was still a taboo secret for fear of physical, mental, and sychological ostricization. The Roost, Flashback, and Boots&Saddle were the only three places where gay people could go and be completely free and not live double lives. If you live life out of lies due to fear,it is not a great way to function- regardless of any sexual orientation. Today's gay youth have no comprehension of this because this issue is no longer a problem with the majority mainstream population. Im offended due to the fact that the symbol is used in vain to gain a dollar by an enterprise. With that said, i hope this will give some people a much better understanding of this symbol, so lets give this issue a rest now as it brings back too much pain of what my gay friends had to endured during that time and before. One further note, for those whom still cant comprehend to this, lets hope The Creator did not pick your child to be special since hatred for this occassion still exist- although to a small degree.

Edmonton's northeast and southeast suburbs have never been the most envied areas of the city.

The richest folks don't live in Clareview or Mill Woods, Belvedere or the Meadows. The houses don't sell for the most there. There's no great history and not so many amenities, either, no great landmarks or attractions to pull other people out there.

But that is about to change. In 2014, these two areas will get new recreation centres that are certain to be the talk and the envy of Edmonton: the redeveloped $105-million Clareview Rec Centre near the LRT station and the $115.5-million Meadows rec centre at 17th Street and 23rd Avenue...

Please do not speak for the community. No one voted you our leader. There are just as many people who are not the least bit offended as there are those who "can't even speak about it because of the painful memories" *hand to head* *faint*. So I agree, let's all drop it.

And yet in that same space they have Steinway speakers that cost an extreme fortune. I wish I could remember their cost. It was so high that it seemed to defy rational mathematics.

Getting Edmonton more active year round is a very good thing, but we do need to be cautious with what we build and where we build it.

These rec centres do have a very large line item on our operating budget, ie. full time staff. Council is aware of this, but going ahead anyhow. For you conservative types concerned about your taxes going up, this will have as much of an impact as anything.

With transit stops incorporated into them or directly adjacent to them.

In Calgary iirc all the new rec centres are required to be revenue neutral - most are operated by a society.

I'm not intending to downplay the issue, I'm just describing the issue in frank terms and giving an idea of what might ameliorate the issue.

Maybe they should have thought about putting the Clareview centre in the Fort Road redevelopment. Although the Clareview centre is surrounded by a considerable amount of residential, a lot of it high density. Can't really blame the rec centre for the planning failures around the station though.

Meadows... who knows... I don't think I've ever even been down there.


I've been running at Commonwealth a few times... it's a very nice complex.
