Yup. Ran into him on the street.

No special settings, but I take them in RAW and sometimes play with the white balance after. Actually, I would have preferred less sunlight, although the late-afternoon light was really nice.

I'm sure you can find plenty of shiny, glitzy photos of LA on here and elsewhere. That's not the type of pics I usually take. I don't "leave the grit out" of my Portland photos either. I just find older places like the Fashion District or Broadway a lot more interesting than LA Live. But here's one for ya...

There's more grit and blue collar in LA County than most people want to believe. God, East LA, Long Beach, South Bay and South Central are cornucopias for that, which I happen to prefer, being from the rustbelt and all...

Besides, the ritzier areas are weary of people with cameras

Behind the yellow line? Never!

I actually saw your photos while browsing Flickr and I was glued to the computer for about 10 minutes. The alley shot in particular is mesmerizing. Also, it's nice to know that you accomplished all of that on foot/by train. Were Metro Rail and Metrolink efficient/convenient enough for you?

Definitely come back soon so you can hit up K-town, Boyle Heights, Los Feliz, and many more fascinating hoods!

If you can get around on foot and/or public transportation in LA you can do it anywhere on Earth.

It's how I roll when I go shooting.

This is as much a part of the true LA as any other part of this city. Most of LA isn't polished and grit free whether you're in Venice Beach, Hollywood, Echo Park, Korea Town, Eagle Rock or the San Fernando Valley.

Yeah, they worked perfectly for me. We waited a little longer than I expected for the subway to Hollywood (maybe 15 minutes before a red line train came), but that was the only slight delay. I've been checking out the LA transit thread and I'm pretty impressed with all the new lines you guys have under construction or in the planning stages.

I originally thought I might make it to Los Feliz (I was there a few years ago just walking through the neighborhood and went to a bookstore in that area - seemed pretty cool), but I didn't have time. And KingoftheHill mentioned that Koreatown would be a cool place to check out, so yeah, I hope I'll make it back there before too long.
