Good luck for pay park n ride. Charge me $5.00 for parking in the burbs and I will drive to my destination. Great way to promote transit?
Mandatory stopping at 23 stations on the way to downtown. This all goes back 10 years when I was advocating for at least allowance for a third express track so that we could eventually have express trains that did not have to stop at mainly residential stations. What a fool I am.

Well no, commuters aren't paying for the park and rides. Other than Baseline, Blair, Jeanne d'Arc and Ray Friel, and those who chose to buy the gold pass, they are free.
I understand that my idea is a bit wonky with the new realties of park and rides being mostly empty. Then maybe we can fund transit by selling the excess space. It may be more justifiable then to charge since the supply will be reduced.
In any case, $5 a day for parking + $7.40 round trip (total $12.50) is still far cheaper than downtown parking at $20+ (if you're going in alone). I manage to find cheaper parking the days I do drive in, but it requires a bit of a walk. End of the day, a suburbanite can choose to just take the bus from home instead of park and riding if they want to save a few bucks.
Ultimately, I think it would have been better and far cheaper to build commuter rail for Barrhaven, Kanata and Stittsville by using existing railways and former rights of way. Orleans never had a railway and is relatively close to Ottawa, so it still makes sense to extend the Confederation Line down there. A third express track would not be worth the expense. We need to improve transit throughout the City before doubling down on one route. We can't even build two tracks for Trillium, so why would we build three for Confed.
With that said, I'd like to know if you at least agree with the premise that someone a Downtown trip from Vanier, for example, should be cheaper than one from Barrhaven and if so, how would you achieve that if fare zones and charging for park-and-rides are not acceptable?
Side note, why doesn't the City open Lynx Stadium to park-and-rides? Or any other underutilized City owned lot? Why are only suburbanites allowed the luxury of mostly free and plentiful park-and-rides?
