I wouldn't be surprised if they add the equivalent of all of the towers in Philly every few years.

But Philly doesn't need to try to be New York. We're our own thing
Agreed. Zero need to try and be NYC 2.0.

2020-2026 Sansom Street

VERY EARLY SPECULATION

2020-2026 Sansom Street, a large stamp of land housing two separate businesses under one management is looking to move!

2020 Sansom Street Gym (gay men’s sauna/bathhouse) and Adonis Cinema (gay men’s adult cinema) are collectively looking for a new location. The businesses operate together but with separate admission points and boundaries within the sprawling complex stretching over four addresses.

Owners of the property and managers of the businesses are tightly intertwined and a move such as this can be speculated as mutually beneficial.

The size of the lots together as seen from above would allow for a sizeable development bound by Sansom and Moravian.

Is this new user account a weird trolling attempt?

Try well over 300 now. I think NYC now has more supertalls than Philly has skyscrapers, or it's going to soon.

Philly is great, so is NYC. But they are different

Not sure if you are positively zealous about Philadelphia or trolling...

Philadelphia is awesome, but come on...

I can't walk even 10 min. in the city w/o seeing a construction site or one prepping for it.

Is this city the most exciting place in the country right now?
I disagree with the "Putting New york to shame" we'll never have that level of contruction, but we are seeing alot of construction right now, its ridiculous. We have 4 cranes up in Ucity? soon to be joined by i think at least 2 more, followed by 3/4 around No-Libs, i think 2 or 3 in center city? and then the 2 on southbroad? Not counting the smaller cranes used for midrise construction like the festival pier site

I personally never clarified that Philadelphia is like NYC. It definitely is at a smaller scale, but Philadelphia is very unique. That's why I love it the most

Pretty interesting. I’ve had several college-educated coworkers in Portland that have moved to Dallas recently, even though they disagree with Texas politics overall, solely because of the cost of living, taxes, etc in Portland.

Philadelphia's first Michelin travel guide awards 'stars' to Museum of Art, other local attractions

Quote:
Michelin has created its first Philadelphia guidebook in partnership with the Philadelphia Convention and Visitors Bureau, generating greater recognition for local museums and other tourist attractions and potentially paving the way for the city's first Michelin-starred restaurants and hotels.

Philadelphia’s Michelin Green Guide is an overview of the city and its surrounding counties that awards "star" ratings to different facets of the region's tourism experience, including the overall destination, the neighborhoods and the museums. Independence National Historical Park, the Barnes Foundation, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Nemours Estate and Winterthur are among the attractions that have been given three stars, the highest possible ranking.

The full list of Philadelphia star recipients will be announced by Michelin Green Guide editor-in-chief Philippe Orain at a local press conference on May 18. Michelin released the French version of the guide in France, Switzerland and Belgium in March, and the English-language version will be available starting in June.

These stars are different than the ratings given to restaurants and hotels in Michelin's Red Guide, which are considered some of the most prestigious recognitions in the hospitality industry. In the Green Guide, editors’ favorite restaurants are designated in the guidebook with hearts, but will not receive stars.

Philadelphia does not currently have a Red Guide and therefore does not have any Michelin-starred restaurants or hotels. Convention and Visitors Bureau director of content Robin Bloom said the organization hopes that the creation of this guidebook will lead to a Red Guide for Philadelphia since the two are "cousins." Michelin would have to approach the Convention and Visitors Bureau first with interest in creating a Red Guide for that to happen, Bloom added.

The U.S. cities that have Red Guides — New York, Washington D.C., Chicago and San Francisco — all have Green Guides as well.

Convention and Visitors Bureau CEO Gregg Caren said in a statement that the organization believes the guide will also help draw more visitors to Philadelphia and that it is a result of the destination marketing organization's work to promote the city to overseas visitors. Michelin initially approached the Convention and Visitors Bureau about teaming up to create the guidebook.

The tourism organization also invested in the project, although Bloom declined to provide the amount.

In a statement, Orain called the city “an essential gateway for a trip to the East Coast.”

"Philadelphia is a condensed version of today's America: a historic city turned towards the future. It will entice you thanks to its old neighborhoods rich with incredible restaurants, its museums of unbelievable culture and its glittering skyscrapers,” he said.

The guidebook calls Philadelphia the “Frenchest American city” and says it provides “the perfect compromise between American excess and European spirit.”

We need to advertise this more both domestically and internationally because Philly is a unicorn in American cities, and people stop being Negadelphians and treat here as a destination instead of a side trip from NYC or DC.

I'm willing to bet that outside this forum and for those who are not urban nerds very few people realize we're the only US city on UNESCO World Heritage list. Philly need to be as famous as Athens or Rome to the outside world.
Wow. This cat loves Philly. lol.

Philadelphia is a great city; a great world city. In London the papers have been telling travelers that if you want to experience an American city go to Philadelphia because its remarkable quality without excessive prices.

If we live here; then I guess it will help to value what makes Philadelphia great and it probably is a good consideration to think of ways to fix what — about the city within as much as we can; I guess that's possible.
