It's also interesting that this Spring/Summer 2023 the Frankfurt FRA - Calgary YYC - FRA flight route on Eurowings Discover Airbus A330 will be a morning 11:20 am arrival time at YYC & 1:05pm departure time.

It's similar to the arrival/departure time Lufthansa mainline had when it operated previously at YYC.

It currently looks like the WestJet Inaugural Calgary YYC - Tokyo NRT, Japan & 1st flight to Asia,will depart from YYC Airport Gate D80.

Inbound WS Boeing 787 for it, will be doing the YYC - Cancun CUN- YYC flight route
Saturday April 29, which is the last YYC departure to CUN on the 787 for this (Winter season 2022). And then it's doing YYC - NRT on Sunday April 30 2023.

Also Sunday April 30 YYC - Dublin DUB & London Gatwick LGW flight routes resume for Spring/Summer 2023 season.

WS flight 80's Inaugural Calgary YYC - Tokyo NRT, Japan & 1st flight to Asia on the Boeing 787-9 ,is departing from YYC Airport Gate D80, this Sunday April 30.

WestJet actually picked a good time to start up the YYC - NRT- YYC flight route 3x weekly for the (Spring/Summer season).

As it is Japans Golden Week National holiday from Sat, Apr 29 – Fri, May 5 2023. As between April 28- May 7 300,000 Japanese people have booked overseas/International trip.

Narita’s farewell to COVID blues with 7-fold rise in trips overseas. Passengers headed for overseas destinations thronged Narita Airport outside Tokyo on April 29 at the start of the Golden Week national holidays.

Officials said it would likely be the facility’s peak day until the passengers return in early May.

Narita International Airport Corp. said that around 300,000 passengers were booked to depart for trips overseas between April 28 and May 7, marking a seven-fold increase over last year and close to 70 percent of the level recorded in 2018 before the novel coronavirus pandemic.

Many passengers were already using the international airport in Chiba Prefecture close to Tokyo on April 28 for overseas destinations now that entry regulations have been lifted.

May 7 is expected to mark the peak for returning passengers, officials said.

In addition, 245,000 or so passengers were expected to use Narita Airport for domestic flights, about the same level as pre-COVID-19 Golden Week seasons.

And the 1st WestJet Calgary YYC to Tokyo NRT, Japan, Asia has landed on NRT Airport Runway 16 Right & it followed in a (2hours late) United 143 Denver DEN-NRT flight,also operated by the Boeing 787.

It looks like WestJet arrived at NRT Terminal1 North Gate 16 & parked near a KLM Boeing 777 that was at Gate 17.

It looks like WestJet flight 81's 1st Asia departure from Tokyo NRT, Japan to Calgary YYC on Monday May 1 2023 is (1hour late) & will be in fact arriving almost a similar time,as KLM 677 Amsterdam AMS to YYC flight usually does.

WestJet 2 London Gatwick LGW - YYC & Air Canada 851 London LHR - YYC also too. All 4 Boeing 787 on long haul international flights✈️landed about a couple minutes of each other onto YYC Airport Runway 17Left this Monday afternoon.

I only say this because the domestic lounge is always full now, and won't get better with these widebodies.

I'm a bit surprised by 300 on the inbound, no round trip sales on there except some from JAL codeshares. I wonder if they are having strong sales in Japan, or connections in NRT. Either way, pretty impressive I think. Hopefully they can manage more than 3x a week in the future.

When I checked I only saw inbound connections from HAN & MNL. Everyone else originated in NRT. Most surprising routing I saw was NRT-YYC-LHR.

Interesting! I do think Banff is a fairly popular in Japan maybe NRT-YYC then bus tour across BC, YVR-NRT on JAL will be a good draw . If the flight can go year around YZF connections will help also.

Must have wanted to try Westjet out, But it's pretty surprising what flights people will take to save a few dollars.

I have some friends that paid a fairly substantial price premium to fly WJ direct out of YYC to NRT, vs AC through YVR. Just one data point, but hopefully a good sign for the new for the flight, really hoping YYC can have a year around flight Asia.

Porter's summer schedule at Toronto Pearson to launch June 1

Porter Airlines is launching its summer schedule at Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), with additional flexibility when travelling between YYZ and Ottawa (YOW), Montreal (YUL), Halifax (YHZ), Vancouver (YVR), Edmonton (YEG) and Calgary (YYC).

The new schedule comes into effect on June 1, adding more desirable flight times that are well-distributed throughout the day. Certain routes will see a further increase in flights by August, according to a press release issued Thursday (May 4).
